  • In Moyes defence he has kept faith with Declan after a difficult few games. Brave thing to do when facing mahrez and Vardy. We don’t know of course if he would have done this had ginge been available but nonetheless it would have done Declan’s confidence the world of good knowing his manager had full trust in him
  • I have no idea whether I still want Moyes to carry on next season. There are pros and cons for me:

    Positives

Kept us up (with two games to spare)
Giving Declan lots of games, even after mistakes
Getting the best out of Arnie
Harder to beat (overall, though when we get beat, man do we get beat)
He is always looking up the table rather than down
    No nonsense with players/egos
Continuity is usually healthy for a club, particularly with the unrest at the moment
Not sure who else the club can attract/the owners would fancy who would do a better job
At our best, I like the way we've played with Arnie, Lanzini, Masuaku on the ball, more so than any time under Bilic post-Payet

    Negatives

When we get beat, we tend to get pummelled
    Low win percentage
Not the best transfer window (Mario's been okay, Hugill was pointless)
    Substitutions always seem odd/late
Lack of game time for Hernandez

    ;hmm
  • Hugill was a pointless signing. The thing is, nobody is going to pay us the same money we signed him for. A striker who doesn't play, never mind one who doesn't score.
  • Fortune

But I don't care what Everton fans do or don't expect. If you do, that's your choice.

Apologies I was just using them as an example as in, if they are Eighth and are looking for a change.
  • Fortunes

Nothing to apologise for. You have a different view to me, that's all.
  • The big question for me is whether, realistically, there is another proven manager who is available and willing to come to us. Benitez would be a better option than Moyes IMO but happy with Moyes rather than taking a significant risk with someone who has not managed in the PL. I do hope the owners really invest in the summer or we will be going nowhere regardless of who the manager is.
  • Random stat. 'The Hammers have scored in their past 11 away league games - their longest scoring run in the top flight since December 1966 (14 games).'
  • Barney is right. Who else is there waiting in the wings ? 4 years ago we knew Bilic was a possibility, and even Benitez at one moment. Now there is nobody obvious or even obscure who might be interested, other than an overseas manager we have never heard off. Keep Moyes - if it ain't broke don't fix it.
  • Amazing stats above from Alderz.
They back up my view that Bilic should have stayed.

    I still miss Slav.
  • Last time we tried to get a manager in the summer we ended up with our fourth choice which means we might not be that attractive proposition to decent managers
  • If the owners want Moyes then they need to sign him now, this week so that he can get is list of who goes, who stays and who he wants in.

I don’t want him personally but the board needs to be decisive.

Oh and I’ve changed my mind and done a total 180, I’d like Raffa Benitez. I’m sure he’s well chuffed at the thought of my endorsement.
  • On that point Suze, I think the worst situation would be that the board don't appoint him and then waste time before appointing a replacement. Whoever is in charge need to have a good look at the team to decide who they want to keep, who goes and who they want to bring in.

If they leave it too long we will be struggling to get anyone again and Sully will have his mitts all over the transfers. I have visions of several players from the teams being relegated coming to us (and not the better ones).

    Suze, Adme,

Don't want to alarm you, but according to C&H (I know, I know...) a decision won't be made until June.
It will be at that meeting in June when a decision will be made on the the manager’s future and it is certainly no ‘given’ that – despite securing the team’s Premier League survival – he will get the ‘gig.’

If (and given the source, it's a big 'if'), that's true, I'd be very unimpressed.
  • Maybe they want to see if they can get anyone better lined up first.
  • His contract probably expires on 30th June which is the norm for footy contracts I think.
  • Possibly, Mrs G. But what will that say about their opinion of Moyes? If they want him, give him a deal now. If they don't, get rid and offer their man whatever he wants.

I'm pretty sure they'd have been sounding out managers since January, so should have an idea by now as to who might be available.

Delaying this, and by extension our transfer dealings, could end up hurting us a lot.

Herbie, I expect it does. But it doesn't mean the board can't discuss/decide his future before then.
  • A lot of this will depend on how much new money the board are willIng to set aside for square improvement. Surely they would have pretty much decided what this is by now?
  • IMO this is why a DOF was a key appointment that should have been made already. There is a big question mark over the managers future, which will affect transfer dealings. We need to have a vision for the future of the side in terms of playing style and personnel, so that we don't have to get the manager sorted to shape that. With an effect DOF we could be already making moves in the market.
  • Hopefully this is not setting up for an "excuse" later on down the line...
  • But we can make another profit this way,doh
  • It’s there uncertainty that does me surely they know if they want Moyes or not by now

You'd have though so Cuz. There's nothing they'll learn about Moyes from these last two games that they don't already know.

Hopefully C&H is wrong. Certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Equally, my opinion of Sullivan is such that it wouldn't surprise me if it was true ;weep
  • OCS unfortunately I believe you may be right about Sullivan and co

Sorry but I have to disagree. If Moyes isn't going to be our manager next season then we need to get the new manager sorted out before we start any transfer dealings. Any manager worth the name is not going to want to arrive here in the summer without having a major say in who we bring in.
  • We also have to consider that it may be possible that Moyes does not want to stay with us and/or the daves. In spite of mixed performances he can at least say he avoided relegation. He may think he can get a better gig and that a new club can get themselves a good manager by appointing him

When you look at the successful years of Southampton and Swansea, both clubs had a blueprint of the style of play and the style of player that they wanted to bring in. Southampton particularly have been consistent in their approach of youth development and bringing in players to fit a certain mould with Les Reid heading things up.

They had no problem recruiting the likes of Pochettino and Koeman, and although it has obviously gone off the rails a bit in the last year, that was a very good model to aspire towards, imo.

Given the short termism of most football clubs these days, my personal feeling is that we should be looking to appoint head coaches, who have some say, but not final say, over recruitment. There is no point in us investing all our money in Moyes style of play if we are going to sack him in a year and bring in a manager who plays a different way.
  • They last report I saw said they will wait 10 days before meeting and making a decision so basically 1 week after the season finishes . The last thing we need is the manager situation to be drifting on all through the summer before rushing out and buying some last ditch bargain bin buys in August
  • The way I’ve been looking at it would I be disappointed if he stayed or left the club and my honest answer is no either way so let’s sort it quickly and move forward
  • I wouldn't trust C&H any more than I trust a politician. I remember them spreading tales about Europa League qualification that was so clearly wrong to anybody who read the regulations.

Anyway, I am pretty sure they will have talked about the future and both parties will have a pretty good idea of what the other side thinks. So what if they take a few days before getting into contract talks? After all, Moyes will have two more games before the season ends and although we are safe that doesn't mean that he can just stop working once it is certain we stay in the league.
