Well let's take the Rafa case

Was about to join us, then the dream arrived and off he went to Real - within 12 months he will now be squaring up against Burton Albion

Then Cabaye - left a mid table team to join a big club with deep pockets - struggled to get game time, and now at Palace

But this isn't just about getting Dimi to stay - it's about showing him that the chances he will be creating won't be for an Eminike type player - and that part is entirely within the control of the Dave's

Sully has said he will be aiming to win the title according I the standard - whilst we can say this is "bullish", we will be able to tell how serious he is about making a mark in the top 4 come 31st August.
  • Agreed Lukerz ;ok

If Madrid want him he'll want Madrid and we'll be on the back foot to keep him.

    IMO.

    Don't agree with that

The football world is now different and you only need to look at who won the league in this country as proof of that plus the fact Vardy has just turned down Arsenal, etc

Nothing can be taken for granted
  • I don't think Vardy wants to be shunted out to the left wing and that's why he doesn't wanna join Arsenal.
  • Don't forget that even though Madrid have deep pockets will they be prepared to match our £100k 5 year deal for a 29 year old?
  • History has shown that things never go well for West Ham players who join Real....
  • He deserves West Ham and the bright future we can offer him
  • Nap time...

    Don't go to bed

    DG
  • If they sign Pogba, who will probably coast 60-70 million plus and be on £200000 a week plus, they won't be shelling out 50 millon plus and upwards of £200000 a week plus as well.
  • but if he has the option it's a no brainer
    Live in Madrid or Essex
Play for Madrid or West Ham

Interesting.I'm from Essex but live in Madrid & it is a no brainer.I'm proud of where I come from but I much prefer it here.
As for the second part, play for Madrid or West Ham,that's a no brainer as well,I'd play for West Ham.
Let's hope Dimi thinks the same although I wouldn't begrudge him the move.I would begrudge him going to another English club though.

    Oi! Whats wrong with Essex?
  • That's right mate, why play for Madrid when you can play for a big team ;biggrin
  • Yes Pards, I knew you'd touch a nerve by referring to the "living in Essex" bit

    Lolololololol
  • Agreed Lukerz ;ok

If Madrid want him he'll want Madrid and we'll be on the back foot to keep him.

    IMO.

    Jorderz + Lukerz ;ok

C&H cover themselves in glory following reports that Dimi was in contact with Madrid - “Why would the agent – who is French – be in London?

That would be Mark McKay mais non? ;lol
  • Not all the players live in Essex though? Think London and Madrid is a little less clear cut, even if Madrid has better weather.
  • Canary Wharf ;ok
  • €250,000 a week and Champions League football week after week every year of his contract, and the chance to add half a dozen trophies to his CV, may well let him put the downer of moving to Madrid from England behind him.
  • Except he won't play most of those weeks.

But yeah, football reasons are a good explanation for him leaving. I don't think he's going to be swung by Mardid or Essex.
  • I think it's pretty obvious if it's a straight choice between avoiding stabbings in Basildon and laying in the sun drinking sangria in Madrid he'll still visit Madrid on holiday sometimes.
  • Real are a horrid club.

If Dimi does go I don't want him going there.

    But Dimi is a hammer.
  • It will be a test for the Daves if he asks for a move but one they can win. Ultimately the situation would come down to he can play for no one else but us unless we agree to sell, he is also not of an age where he can sulk as by the end of his contract he would have retired or be very near. The worst deal they should come to in this situation is an agreement to one more season and should he still wish to leave then a buy out clause of 50m. Hopefully by the end of this season we have made further progress and Real Madrid have moved on. Failing this we got an extra season and a good price.

There is no reason for the Dave's to negotiate from a position of weakness as otherwise that new contract negotiation last season was the most wasted exercise ever, it simply said pay me more if I stay but if I want to go I will, and they must be smarter than that surely!
  • I've avoided this conversation so far... However, my personal opinion is that he will be playing for us next season.

But, as devils advocate (with a negative train of thought).... Dimi will star in Euro2016 right til the end

    Be subject to massive bids
Be eventually irritated we didn't let him join Madrid
Be 'lethargic' in training and on match days
Be burned out by the season/lack of rest and the Euros
Be like a 2nd season Hazard
    Be 30
    Be found out
    Be worth next to nothing
Be our player for another 4 years on massive wages
Be wondering why we didnt take the 50M for him when we accept a 4M bid in 2 years time from Toulouse

Is that what you want? Cos that's what'll happen ;nonono ;wahoo ;wink
  • Non non non non

    No cashing in on Dimi

    Non.

    Capeesh.
  • Would be annoying if we rejected massive bids and he ends up being a one season wonder.
  • A tiny weeny little risk well worth taking.

  • Well let's hope Dimi isn't on this forum as there are a few folk more or less endorsing a decision for him to go there as if it's the obvious thing to do.

Personally i'm prepared to back the Dave's to follow through on what they've hitherto said on the matter.

He sulked/went on strike before, didn't he? At Lille?

I hope he doesn't go. I ;carew him.

(In case he's reading ;wink )
  • We all love him, hence the amount of comments. Nobody wants him to go and I don't think he will, better? ;biggrin
