Payet is one player I would not mind scoring a hattrick in a WC final. If Geoff Hurst has to share that record, it ought to be someone special (and a hammer).
In a few weeks, we move into a 60k seat stadium, we have just had a really fun and interesting season. Got a great manager, and a squad that will be improved over the summer. Dimi don't seem to be a guy motivated by money, but more motivated by playing great football and enjoying his chosen sport. Have a read of his past interviews to get an insight to what a 29 year old footballer who has been a bit erratic, finds his mojo. He's got the best fans in the world loving him, and slaven thinks he's the second coming. The clubs owners have said he's staying. I'm looking forward to seeing him duffing up keepers in the prem next season, wearing our new kit.
West Ham are bracing themselves for a bid from Real Madrid for Dimitri Payet in the wake of Euro 2016 - he has scored goals in both of France's games so far.
“I’m so pleased he is playing so well. As for the future, Dimitri has five years left on his contract. There is no buy-out [clause] and we are building a team around him.”
For me, money for Payet is like the old points on the board v games in hand argument. Having points in the bag is a better position to be in, IMO, than playing catch-up with midweek gams, knowing you 'might' overtake the opposition should you collect enough points.
I would much rather have Payet in our squad over any amount of money offered because, as seen with Spurs and Liverpool, you can sell a star player for silly money, and chances are you will still be a worse side even if you reinvest all the cash in new players.
We, as fans, do not benefit from his sale. The club and board do, financially, but that money does not come to us and then it is a complete unknown whether that money is widely invested.

Yes.....
But there is a flip side
We turn down 50-60m and he doesn't continue the form of the last 12 months for some reason or has an injury. Then he is never worth that money again
Not saying that will happen and I very much doubt it will but
Spurs are in a good place because they made smart shrewd signings after the season the Bale windfall had largely underwhelmed
They went back to basics and picked up Dier and Ali for a combined sum of less than £10 mil and now both are in the spine of the team
Got to also be said Tottenham had/have a far superior squad who had been among the top 4 the last few seasons so had a better base then us to cope with losing Bale

The 'journos' certainly will.
Why would the club be 'bracing' themselves?
Here's how that conversation goes:
(Diddy D's phone rings)
- Hello, David Sullivan speaking.
- Hi, this is Real Madrid. We'd like to buy Payet.
- No. Goodbye.
- Wait, wait, you haven't heard our offer. Hello? Hello? I think he hung up.

- No. Goodbye. Oh hang on. Out of interest how much?
- That much?
- I'll let you know.
Yeah, it will. ;wink

As others have said, Spurs and Liverpool are clear examples of failing to use 'windfall' money effectively.

I don't think Simonc is saying Spurs would buy him - I think he is saying Spurs are in a good place now having cashed in on their prized asset
