  • Sullivan interviewed yesterday said Slav will get the full 3 years of his contract

They’re doing the same thing as they did with SA in his final season.

Surely not after the Brighton result? It feels like sticking with Abraham Grant...
  • SCHB that interview was earlier in the day. His face towards the end of the game was like thunder and watching about 20,000 people streaming towards the exits with 15-20 minutes to go would have been a nightmare.

The club have said there is a meeting between owners and manager tomorrow.

Gold is flying back for it.

    If so, ;hmm
Sadly IMO this is the 1st time Slav has lost many of his fans.....
I'm sticking with him and give him the next 2 games at least... Although I know I'm in a minority here....
  • You don't need a board meeting to sack anyone, you just send Brady round. ;wave

That’s actually true. So if indeed gold is flying back for a “meeting” tomorrow I don’t believe the purpose of it is to sack Bilic

Either that, or he just didn't want to miss out on the fun ;lol

Does it matter who is n charge, can’t play any worse

    It absolutely does matter.
That was poor,, apart from play better team yes could be worse.
If we was mangerless could we play any worse?
  • Neither do I.

They will wait for his contract the expire.

  • What is the point of waiting for his contract to expire. Either they want him as manager or they don't. Sacking him now will obviously involve compensation but that is going to be small fry compared to financial losses from relegation which is on the cards whilst we are playing the way we are.
If they believe he can get us out of it then fair enough but it's not a temporary blip as we've been rubbish on the whole for over a season.
  • Maybe they've rung around all the possible replacements, been turned down and the prospect of Terry Westley or Julian Dicks as caretaker for an unspecified period is not one they find attractive
  • You have to think it would be Westley, if SB goes so will Dicks.

Yes I know it was, do you really think one result / performance out of a possible 30 odd left will cause them to pull the trigger now? Because I don’t. They will muddle their way through it, there’s part of me that really wants him to resign

Exactly, and as I said it’s what they do
2.8m or less to get rid of him, entice another manager but remember they will have to find 30-40m in Jan for the new guy....they won’t like that will they.

Or they stick with slav, one win, one draw, two defeats and spend little finish 10-17th perfect

A very high risk strategy though SCHB. At least when they did this with Sam they could pretty much guarantee he had enough in him to be well clear of relegation.

    Slav on the other hand?....
  • The club have said there is a meeting between owners and manager tomorrow.

    There's always a board meeting on Monday, isn't there - it's routine.
  • Yes there is but tomorrow's Sunday.
  • ;doh ;lol Those Friday games really throw you out of kilter.
  • Is there anyone else out there who believes Slav should stay? Sure I am concerned, but I still believe he can turn things around.
  • Nope last night was the last straw for me this can’t carry on the players aren’t playing for him when that starts happening it’s never going to end well. If the board can’t see that then we really are doomed.
  • I really like him as a person (based on the way he comes across in the meeja etc - I've never actually met him ;whome ). I am ambivalent, party because I think the players must take a lot of the blame. If they are so wonderful (as seems to be believed by some who argue that Slav is 'ruining' them) then why are they not actually playing better and doing basic things right?

For a while, our defensive play (not, note, our defence but the whole defensive performance) was rubbish. That's mostly been fixed. And that's down to the coaching team. Unless you believe that it (rubbish defending ... subsequent improvements) is all in spite of the coaching team? In which case, sacking them will have no effect.

If as everyone says, confidence and momentum are big factors, then is it surprising that performances have struggled. Since we don't have confidence or much momentum. (Fans play a part here.)

And yet. And yet. We now have pretty much all of our players injury free. But still we play badly. I don't know if Slav knows what to do to fix it. I am doubtful, therefore, f it is actually worth him staying. (I think his lack of experience is telling, here.)

I am wondering if, in the context of 'now we have our best team available' it is rather the case that we have our best players available. But are they, together, really the best TEAM. Because I am tending towards thinking that the transfer targets (for which I hold the manger responsible) are 'good players' but not really 'the right players that will form a good team and combine to be more than the sum of their parts'.

Sorry. Rambling a bit. Thinking aloud. But I think that last bit I said is at the heart of it and explains why we have (on paper) many skilful players but not really a team that gets the best out of everybody. ;hmm Will think some more about it. But if that IS the root of the problem, getting rid of Slav now won't fix it.
  • I disagree that the players weren't playing for the manager. Arnautovic was being him - a sulky, lazy player (we knew this). Hernandez was trying to get things going and Zabaleta played wholeheartedly as he always does. The rest did not play well enough and need to step up.
I hope Slav grows some, and stops defending the players. There was nothing wrong with the starting team. They should have played better. I blame the players.
  • I agree, Slav is getting all the stick, and has to carry the can, but at the end of
the day we had eleven players out there which should have been good enough
to beat Brighton, and must also take the blame with a pathetic performance.

correct 11 players, Brighton had a team
  • Mrs G ;ok i got told to 'do one' (the swear word version) on twitter because i said the players should take the blame as well as Bilic + it wasn't all down to him.
  • So if it 's all down to the players and not the coaching how come Brighton performed as they did with players that most on here wouldn't have in their team? ;hmm

Who said it is "all" down to the players? ;puzzled
  • Twist, read the posts prior to mine

Yeah there's no hope and bob hope. ;wink
  • Surely anyone who wants Bilic to stay must have that desire because of their affection for him? It can't be for his tactical nous and ability to motivate the players!
