  • Balogun's red card suspension has surely set a precedent. Let's see if Quansah's is treated the same. I won't hold my breath.

The thing is that some "Red Card Bans" have been served already, and no doubt Quansah's will be served into the future. Infantino has now brought FIFA's credibility to an all time low with this Trumpian style "the rules apply when we say so" decision.

    Infantino has to go!
  • The only surprise about this red card fiasco is that people are surprised that the orange monster made the call in the first place.
  • It certainly says something when Sepp Blatter has the moral high ground!

I'm not surprised that Trump has the balls to do something like that, but the egg head just folding and agreeing to decide what they have, simply makes the world see what FIFA is all about ( if they didn't know already ).....
  • Brilliant England performance. Set my alarm for 04.30 (UK) recording failed ! so watched whole game on i player. Fast forward half time etc. Quick breakfast and on the first tee for competition at 07.20. - Golf not so brilliant but talked about the footy all the way round.

I saw this piece on another site I visit from a member who posted this & thought I'd share it here......If this breaks site rules, please just delete it.....Thx

"Trump’s intervention is especially ironic given his recent upset at the US Supreme Court striking down his executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship for children of non citizens - given the player involved in this case is a child to immigrant parents who were not US citizens at his birth.

Now should this decision for Trump to tell FIFA to drop the suspension be an indication of a newfound respect for the rule of US constitutional law on his part, I’d rejoice, but, of course this is yet another example of the current US President’s desire to inject chicanery into every proceeding he can get his hands on. Good thing the FIFA president was close by when he needed help, I doubt he had to look beyond his back pocket.

To conclude as I started I’ll steal a quote from a former US Supreme Court justice. There are many examples where threats to sporting integrity are subtle, clad in sheep’s clothing, only discernible through careful examination and investigation. “But this wolf comes as a wolf.”

    What an utter disgrace.
  • If the US wants to have any form of respect they drop the player anyway. This is not of his doing but he is the one who is going to get the agro from now on.
  • There is an opportunity here, I must admit that I feel a little bit of bias here as living here and being a footie guy, I really want the US to succeed….but not like this.

I think that this decision has pushed the majority of people to lean towards supporting Belgium, however, if the US were brave enough to take the high road and not select him, I think that the majority of people would rally behind team USA and if they were to pull it off, the impact and implications would be truly tremendous……in so many ways…even beyond the boundaries of this World Cup
  • That was the best England performance I have seen for a long time. They were brilliant and each player I am sure will remember that match all their life in that stadium and atmosphere.

Regarding the corrupt red card suspended it's almost worth it as it is once again exposing FIFA for corruption. Trump is making it so much worse for them by being so narcistic that he is openly saying that he sorted it out. If they win the trophy my money is on him going full John Terry and lifting the trophy in a kit.

If the player has any respect for himself, and in the wider context the "spirit of the game", he will declare himself unavailable for selection for the Belgium match.

You are correct this is not of his doing, and I think it correct to feel sympathy for him regarding this matter but he now risks his reputation forever being tainted. And why, because of two men who obviously have little or no understanding of the word "honour" have colluded to bend standard pre tournament rules.

This is not FIFA bending rules, it is a final shattering of what little trust FIFA still manages to hold in the minds and hearts of the "FOOTBALL" loving world.

Mr Balogun has my utmost sympathy right now. He will lose it all if he decides to step over the white line tonight.
  • I see that Henderson got both a yellow card and an injury without even playing!!!!
  • There's a pub quiz answer right there!
  • Trump just admitted that he didn't know what a Red Card was or the implications for Balogun after receiving one.
    So, therefore,
Once he was informed that the USA's "best player" (his words) could not play in their next match,
He was on the phone to Sycofantino and the fix was done.

Makes one feel somewhat queasy does it not... :p

    No, just no. =)
  • I doubt there's a neutral football fan in the world who won't be supporting Belgium tonight; Trump's antics leave an extremely sour taste in the mouth, and yet he can't even see why.
  • Corrupt.

    Simples
  • But he knows sport .And yet has no idea what a red card means in football

  • Balogun starts for the USA,
As per normal Trump has taken the opportunity to corrupt, cheapen and devalue anything and everything that he has dealings with.

Belgium 2-1 up on U.S .Not sure why I'm watching it as even if Belgium win ,Trump will get it reversed =)
  • USA 1-4 Belgium.
    Replay on Friday.
  • Justice served - one of my mates over here made me laugh when he responded to my suggestion that Balegon could sit it out…
“I think Balegon should play as it is to risky for him to sit it out on the sidelines as he might get a yellow card and break his wrist”

    Well played
  • Just in —- Trump has announced that Belgium is two weeks away from having a nuclear weapon…….
  • Two absolutely outstanding goals even thought first was chalked off. This is fun.
  • Oh! And Martinez, on the world stage, showing how average he is.
  • They are so determined to see Argentina through that if someone scores against them they may run play back to when the teams met in a previous world cup to find the foul that disallows the goal.

I've also decided I really don't like Messi now.
