Up at 4am to watch Norway beat Brazil. The Haaland-led Viking Boat Row after was also brilliant. Bonded the team and supporters. One of the lasting memories of this competition. BTW Mrs Grey, me and the boss watch from any time between 2 and 5am, drive for brunch, and rest in the afternoon. Retirement, it's brilliant 😁
Fortunately the schedule obviously works for us over here - boys came over for burgers and brats - game on at for a civilized 8.00pm.
I think that Mexico is a tougher nut to crack than Norway but if we do prevail tonight, I feel we have a great chance of a semi final spot- probably against Argentina - now that would be great reason to get a few beers in
It's nearly 4am here, went for a few hours sleep and set alarm to get up.... Pity we couldn't have kept the 2 goal advantage and Mexico have been piling on the pressure since.
I said Pickford looked nervy in an earlier game, but so far tonight he has made a few brilliant saves....
I was watching, just too wired up to text! That was chaos, with a good result. The crowd, the ref, the altitude, their early tactics, 10 men for 50 minutes...and I was going to add, Tuchel's weird substitutions but they all worked perfectly...the best defensive team performance I've seen from England that I can remember 👏 👍
Wow, just wow. Every single one of them was a hero, but Pickford? What a game he had! Probably the best England performance in a tournament for donkey’s years. So proud of ‘em. 🎉🏴🎉🏴🎉🏴🎉
I just finished watching the full replay this morning (after checking the result), I was still worried we were going to concede in extra time! What a game.
That was without doubt, the best England performance and the best football match I have ever watched. It had, and the players gave, everything. Unbelievably pride inducing stuff.
We should just announce it ourselves and let Fifa have to argue why his red isn't suspended.
FA just come out with, "we are grateful that Fifa have allowed all teams to have 1 red card decision which can be suspended for 1 year. In light of this we have decided that Quansah's will be eligible for the the next game against Norway."
The Ronaldo suspended suspension is the predcedent people are saying has been used by FIFA opening a large can of worms!
That doesn't really fly though, because that was in qualifiers. There has only ever been 1 other ban overturned in the actual WC itself and the other was when there wasn't the automatic suspension for a red card.
So this is literally the first time this has ever been done and it's been done on the basis of political interference.

Come on England....
Well worth it, that game had the lot......
Possibly the best England performance/result I can remember - down to ten for so long in that cauldron yet manage to prevail.
Pickford, Bellingham and the rest take a bow
