Did anybody else spot Nikola Vlasic playing for Croatia?
He's still with Torino after three seasons with one year left on his contract plus option for another. 143 appearances, 2nd for goals two seasons in a row and 1st for assists last season
He's vice captain although he wears the armband for most matches as the club captain is 35yo Duvan Zapata
3rd top scorer for Torino last season was Che Adams.
FIFA considered starting Mexico v England 6 hours earlier because the forecast is for another thunder storm similar to the one that delayed the Mexico v Ecuador match by an hour.
It's not just happening in Mexico, France v Iraq in Philadelphia was delayed by 2 hours due to storms
And police aren't happy with the pubs staying open until 5am
I imagine a couple will be attracting some offers soon enough.
I don't get the pubs opening so late, it's sending the message that football must come with drinking at all times. I know it's not compulsory to open but I am sure many staff who would rather not be keeping such hours will be leant on to accommodate opening.
So far, with 55 minutes played, Canada v Morocco has yielded 7 yellow cards. Referee - Michael Oliver. Over the past two days I have watched a couple of games that were akin to re runs of the Battle of Hastings with next to no cards brandished. The Referee's - South American. Just saying what I saw, make of it what you will.
Paraguay were absolute trash against France, and the referee was the worst I have seen in a long while for allowing them to get away with it. There is something about the South American personality I feel as the likes of Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina always manage to leave you feeling as though its a lesser version of a person on display.
I am soooo pleased that France prevailed in the face of blatant provocation - I cannot fathom how Paraguay ended up with zero yellow cards yet France were issued three.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic said it best - France kept their composure today, if I had been playing I would definitely have received a red card and Thierry Henri concurred when he said that football won today.
The “gamesmanship” may be considered part and parcel of today’s game but in my book……….what was on display today crossed the line
Why South American teams play for a draw in a knockout competition baffles me. They're usually good enough to win. Why they think cheating and faking will work, I can understand, given the cowardly refereeing in some matches. FIFA needs to choose the refs with more care, or Conspiracy Theories will flourish. 🙃
Thought Michael Oliver reffed the Canada V Morocco game well, nearly all YC’s were warranted IMO…,tackles etc were flying in like mad…
Anthony Taylor has been awarded probably the best game of the round : Spain v Portugal… Our 2 English refs are highly regarded by FIFA & UEFA, whatever the public think of them, just saying….
& re the Uzbekistan official last night in the France v Paraguay game, he was so weak and inconsistent, that performance will certainly be the end of his tournament for him, for sure…

On the other hand, the fellow from Uzbekistan who refereed the Paraguay v France took incompetence to a whole new level last night. It was hard for me to comprehend what I was actually watching. He should never be allowed to officiate ever again.
It may have something to do with FIFA attempting to be fair when allocating referees. I doubt this guy, being from Uzbekistan, is used to officiating at a high level and perhaps the occasion got to him and being afraid to make a mistake he decided to make no decisions. If it's not that then it's another cause for concern regarding corruption, as it was really too bad to believe.
That is appalling and shows that FIFA are now corrupt beyond doubt, Sepp Blatter may have been corrupt off the filed but I can't recall this stuff happening. It was another reason I wanted France to win last night, anything to stop the FIFA chosen outcome of Argentina to win with Messi lifting the prize.
I am anticipating a huge Argentina bias if they play France.
Trying to imagine a scenario where, under the same exact circumstances, FIFA step in and rescind a suspension of KDB allowing him to participate in a knock out World Cup game against the USA
The disease of Trump is spreading everywhere, rules based institutions replaced with corruption. It can take countries decades to try and rid themselves of corruption once it takes root yet the American people are watching Trump introduce it in every place possible. FIFA have always had a corrupt element but the pitch was pretty much off limits for its expression, not anymore.
I'm going to try and stay up and watch but have set up the BBC no spoilers to record. As a man of leisure I will probably have a lie in before resting for the rest of the day. 😴

It seems crazy to me that they return home unbeaten over 90 min despite having played three prior World Cup winners.
And that second equalizing goal, he has surely never hit a sweeter strike in his life.
Simply Unbelievable

Its a small world

I booked Monday off, got all day to recover

To be fair I did think the red was harsh so I was okay with the one game suspension but to just arbitrarily remove any suspension is simply outrageous
Simply wouldn’t happen
Or have a nap then get up to watch?
Or go dark and do the BBC no spoilers watch at 7.
Or something else?
If you are based elsewhere in the world, maybe this schedule works for you?
And if you are watching, how are you planning to navigate the day (dealing with work, if that's your thing) tomorrow...
I'd probably choose that option and swerve the football altogether...
Alas, I am generally a woman of leisure but not tomorrow.
