So I am assuming the vast majority of us, if not all of us, live to fight another cup day?
In other news.... I am beginning to feel I am a jinx to Harry Kane. I've sold him and brought him back in and every time I captain him he doesnt score. If I dont, he gets two!! Grrrr!
I'm making poor captaincy choices at the moment. I had mine on Sterling and them panicked hed be rested. So Kane against Brighton was obvious, wasnt it?
I was pretty excited just to progress, i am pretty sure that it is a first for the Chicago Irons.
My opponent was called the “name of a local place” devils so I assume a Manc bias, I wonder what they might think of being beaten by someone they assume was not only a West Ham fan, but an American to boot ;lol
Last season I think I made about 4 transfers without realizing it was qualifying week. I had a stinker and didnt even qualify for the cup! So this season = progress
Pope Kolasinac - Azpiliceuta - Robertson Hazard - Richarlison - Salah - Sterling Niasse - Firmino - Kane
Bench: Eliot - Loftus-Cheek - Otamendi - Mbemba
His last team:
De Gea Kenny - Otamendi - Zanka Hazard - Richarlison - Salah - Sterling Loftus-Cheek Firmino - Kane
Bench: Eliot - Calvert-Lewin - Dunk - Mee
Ok, a bit of a cup dilemma....
The team I play this weekend has nine of the same players as me.
Basically the same midfield 5, Kane and Firmino up front, Otamendi and Eliot at the back.
So......
We have radically difference defences though. I believe I have the stronger/better quality defence but his fixtures this week arent bad considering lesser teams his defence is formed from.
Him: Kenny: home to Swansea Zanka: away to Watford Mee: away to Brighton Otamendi: home to Spurs Dunk: home to Burnley
Me: Kolasinac: home to Newcastle Azpiliceuta: home to Southampton Robertson: away to Bournemouth Otamendi: home to Spurs Mbemba: Unlikely to play
But I have Niasse up front to his Calvert-Lewin (with the latter seeming to be playing/preferred by BFS).
Ordinarily, I'd back myself on the defence and let it all roll. However, with Richarlison having ' a slight groin injury' and real fears that Sterling will be rested, I have a dread that having Mbemba and Niasse on the subs bench at their clubs and probably not getting any game time that I'll only have max 10 players scoring any points if Sterling/Richarlison/Mbemba/Niasse dont play. I'll then have Otamendi who's on my bench because I think Spurs will score and Loftus -Cheek because he doesnt do much compared to Salah, Sterling, Hazard and Richarlison.
He's made one transfer which I am guessing is Richarlison out.
My thoughts re covering and transfers:
1) Use my 0.2 and buy Holgate for 4.2M to replace Mbemba (and hope Keane or Jagielka dont take his starting place) plus incur no penalty points 2) Swap out Sterling for Silva (with the worry that Spurs will do a better job than most of shackling both players) 3) Swap Sterling for Mahrez and transfer someone like Lingard for Richarlison (or bring in Christensen for Azpiliceuta to free up funds) 4) bring in Mahrez for Hazard and have enough funds to bring in Silva for Richarlison 5) Bring in a Man Utd defender (e.g. Smalling 5.4 or Jones 5.3) for Azpiliceuta and free up some funds to take out Richarlison or Niasse (and hope Richarlison is fit). The only form striker in that range is Austin though and he's got hard teams to play.
I could carry on with the perms (obviously, its me) but nothing I've tinkered with means I will address Niasse up front well unless I make 3 transfers. That is obviously high risk especially considering how many similar players we have and therefore little room to make up the deficit.
Actually I could swap Mahrez for Hazard (which worries me as he'll have a stormer and the other guy will benefit) which leaves me exactly the right amount to transfer out Niasse and bring in Rooney (one of the very few in form strikers)...
Hence the brain hurting dilemma... Thoughts? ;hmm ;puzzled ;wahoo
My observations as I read through your post... 1. Eliot hasn't played for about 4 weeks. So you are going H2H on different keepers. 2. I think you can pick 3 defenders that have a better chance of a CS , or assists or attacking points. I'd play Otamendi, because even without a CS he can get you points. 3. Even if Sterling desn't get 90, he's often introduced from the bench and gets a good haul of points.
Then on your listed options for transfers 1. A good strategy going forward, but maybe not going to be a big differential in the Cup. 2. A bit of a waste of a FT, as either player is likely to net you good scores going forward. Silva's had a goof few games recently, but he won't perform like that every week. He could easily just get 2. 3. Mahrez is a good shout. I'm holding Richarlison, personally, because of his long-term potential, and the financial hit of selling now + buying back later. Lingard ;hmm will he always play? Azpi/Christensen ;ok 4. You could, but I think you need a Chelsea attacker (and with Morata a doubt, Hazard could be the one to get you goals.) 5. Getting a cheaper defender to free up funds ;ok Not sure about a ManU one though.
My own guiding principal - it's not worth scuppering your long term hopes for a good cup run, because the cup is too chancy.
Holding on, apparently Richarlisons passed fit and apparently was taken off from fatigue, not a groin problem ;hmm Whilst I am glad he's not out injured, if it was fatigue, surely he needs a rest (and dont call him surely)...
Obviously 'tired' Morata is back because I Tfd him out so I could once again captain Kane when he doesnt score (and keep that in and out cycle going when I TF him out and everyone else has him as captain and he scores 2! ;wahoo ;angry
Chicago and Mrs Grey... Thanks for the thoughts and observations ( I thought you'd just say dont make any TFs Mrs Grey hehe )
I do agree on the Sterling coming on and making points when not starting. However, in recent weeks it looks like Pep is resting players for the whole 90 (Sane, Aguero, Jesus and now Walker). So it must be Sterlings turn soon? Silva (I've never really wanted him as he doesnt score enough despite the recent run) and DeBruyne do seem to be immune to that although KDB was even taken off early least game. That said, as they're playing Spurs, I'd want my best players in the team and Sterling is definitely in that band
I'm going to look with fresh eyes and knowing that Richarlisons fit even if hes rested
Could to. He steps up to take a penalty and blasts it into row Z. He then gets sledged by the jubilant opposition and floors one of their players breaking his hand in the process. Walking off the pitch he then trips and tears his knee ligaments.
I brought in Firmino and David Silva for Morata and Ramsey also got in Ayew from Swansea as an upgrade on Quaner. Assuming no injuries going to move out Elliott for Adrian or Foster and then prepare a bench boost.
I finally (just a minute ago) made a decision. To have 9 from 15 the same made me wonder for an absolute age! Thats on top of wondering if Salah and Sterling would be rested and if Richarlison was actually fit.
So.... I moved a defender out and I now need my two defenders from the same team to get a clean sheet (or goal/assist would help too)
just also wanted to mention about the draft league... It wasnt so long ago I was really pleased to acquire Ibra and Benteke to have my first 'quality' front three of the season. Well that worked out well. One doesnt play and one doesnt score! ;doh

I gave you the ;ok on Mahrez! I never said don't make any transfers..... ;whome
I myself have brought in Arnautavic.
I will apologise now for his injury/red card/penalty miss. (delete as appropriate)

You will now see City lose their first game of the season today....
