It will be interesting to see how the 'big' players fare this season.
I think it was interesting that last year, it was the 'cheap' players that did well, quite consistently - so EVERYBODY could afford to have top scorers eg, Vardy, Mahrez, Payet, one or both Watford striker, Dele Alli, etc. because they were cheap.
Usually, your budget will only stretch to one or two of the 'big hitters' from the big teams as they are so expensive. So you have to choose between (in the olden days) Sanchez or Yaya Toure, and Aguerro or Suarez. But last season, you could have all the best players ;wahoo
(I'm not sure I'm explaining what I mean very clearly. Am I making sense?)
I went with the 'pack the midfield with higher value players, but sacrifice the quality in defence and attack' approach, my thinking being the midfield obviously has the highest scoring potential.
So, after many changes, I've gone Mane, Coutinho, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Davis. Coutinho is a bargain at £8m. I left Payet out because he won't come flying out the blocks at the start of the season. Mane is a player who doesn't really rely on form, but is very unpredictable and as a result picks up assists and goals quite frequently.
In defence I've gone with Shaw and Bailly. Both likely to play as they have in pre-season and Jose always starts well at clubs and instils a good defensive record. Evans, van Dijk and Kone complete my defence, all pose threats at set pieces and play for sides likely to prioritise clean sheets (Moyes and Pulis in particular).
Up front I go Carroll (due to his end of season form and pre-season form), Vardy and Gray (who has been scintillating in pre-season and will play in a more adventurous 4-4-2).
In goal, I think Foster and Heaton are safe bets. Burnley kept 10 ish clean sheets in the season they went down two years ago, so I'd expect them to do similar. WBA will always keep clean sheets under Pulis.
Curious to know peoples thoughts on the following:
1) Martial and Rodrigues now classed as Midfielders
2) Which new player to the Prem do you fancy? (I initially put too many new players in last season Depay/Firmino etc with only the latter coming good – So I am currently wary of Mkhitaran and Nolito but tempted by the latter)
3) Who are your ‘value’ (doesn’t have to be cheap, just value for their price) defenders, midfielders and forwards?
Here are mine:
Fwd – Origi at 7M. Klopp likes him and it seems Sturridge is injured. There’s a lot of midfield competition at Liverpool but if Origi gets his chance and starts well I think Klopp will have him as No1 striker. He looked excellent before last seasons injury and knows where the goal is.
MF – Ayew at 7.5M One of those MF/Forwards like Mane/Nolito/Martial. At his price with 12 goals last season and with him being a Hammer, I had to pick him out
Def. – Kone at 4.5M There was speculation a while ago that he may go to Everton (which looks likely now) which makes it even better for me. He looked impressive for Sunderland and a 4.5M goalscorer is always handy
(pondering Musa especially at 7.5 - looked excellent against Barca but I am wondering if he will start in front of Vardy and Okazaki - more likely to break into the side later IMO)
Bought perhaps with Vardy going to Arsenal in mind.... He's quick like Vardy and looks like a poacher so would fit into their style of play. Ikazaki doesnt score many but has been in the side via work rate over Ulloa IMO. Im curious to see if Ranieri will play Musa and Vardy in tandem. Maybe the other Leicester players can lump it up to 2 choices then instead of one ;wink
For now. Though unsure about how much Ihenaco will play. Possible he could get good opportunities under Pep because he looked very good last season. Think it's more likely that he'll get games under Pep than Rashford under Mourinho.
I go for CB's in direct sides, who often try and play second ball football. Evans often plays LB for WBA and is likely to put a few crosses in and lump a long ball forward or 10, but you never see fullbacks score from set pieces because they're normally too small. Same with Kone. Likely to play a few balls in the air if he plays under Moyes (could go to Everton though) and got a couple goals at the back end of last season.

;yercoat
Defence, Shaw v Friend ;hmm
MF- Feghouli ;ok (instead of Antonio, since he is playing further back nowadays).
I've spent my money on midfield and attack. Spent very little on defence.
;wink
De Bruyne is lacking match sharpness.
The winner of what I meant by Ginge ;angry the other day gets a prize.
Is that you, Baz?

This is my squad so far... Still some tinkering to do though ;hmm
Another day, another #tinker
