    What if the £ goes back up, will the club then look to re negotiate their contracts down? I don't think that the £ will stay low for a prolonged period so don't really see this as being too much of an issue in the long run.

    Saw a report that on 5 Live DG said offers wouldn't be considered for Payet below £50m, which made me ;hmm

    This is the full interview, which is more positive about our intentions to keep him. Just wish he'd kept it to 'he's not for sale' and not added a 'minimum price'.

    There's an article in the Mail from Sully this morning.

    Basically says he's not for sale, he's worth at least £100m and that we would keep him even if he kicked up a storm. He also says if he keeps performing, we'll keep upping his wages.

    What makes me laugh is that the season ended two months ago and as far as we're all aware there hasn't been a single offer for him. Yet we are constantly being told daily that x, y and z are interested and we've got owners putting out hands off pleas on a weekly basis.

    Yet no official bid. ;hmm

    I think most transfer rumours are media generated and driven - they have to fill space somehow - and are often totally bogus.

    At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if some of it wasn't driven by clubs (sellers and buyers) using tame journos to test the waters and see what reaction they get.

    In Payet's case, I really can't see any club wanting to go over £40m for him, probably closer to £30m, so the club are at least making the right noises by putting the valuation the other side of silly money.

    Guarantee that the clubs are involved in it. The press know it's not really a story but they have a source so they'll run it. It's just a less important version of what governments and intelligence agencies do to us. They pick up the phone, tell us something and then tell us not to name them.

    I am very grateful for what the chairmen have done and continue to do for this club, but yeah, Sully really has no tact or, it seems, much common sense.

    I think I know what he was getting at but it does make Payet sound like a petulant child which I'm sure wasn't his intention, but he really is like that drunk uncle at a wedding sometimes.

    No. He is describing a potential scenario, one which he has probably witnessed before.

    I don't get people jumping all over him and expecting him to change. He has become a multi millionaire by doing it his way. Who are we to argue?

    I don't think anyone expects him to change, but I for one would prefer it if he displayed a little more tact and self-control when talking to the media
