EFL Championship : Bolton V West Ham away, Tuesday 8th Sept @ 8pm (UK Time)

edited September 6 in Match Threads
So after a decent win, 3 goals and a clean sheet we're off to The Toughsheet Community Stadium ( what a name! ) on Tuesday evening, the games are coming thick and fast now....

Will Pablo be seen, did Taty pick up a knock, will the game come to soon for some, all these questions we'll have to wait & see....

Hopefully the clean sheet will do the defence, including Mads some confidence, will Scarles keep his place, I think for now, yes, but again NES always seems to surprise us in some way....

Ref appointed -

Referee: Webb, David
Assistant Referee: Woodward, Richard
Assistant Referee: Lehane, Jacob
Fourth Official: Yates, Ollie

It's live on Sky Sports Football and fortunately for me, in South Africa, it's live on ESPN, so no scrambling for a stream....

We're all in this together whether we sometimes see things differently or have different views, it's always a big.........
COYI from Cape Town.......

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Kilman - Adama
    Engels - Musaka
    Bowen - Austbø - Solomon
    Piroe

Nuno seems to be rotating full-backs & it looks like Pablo & Taty are doubts. He may bring in Orford & go 4-3-3 or you could play Kanté off of Piroe.

IMO, Solomon was pretty ineffective yesterday running into blind traffic, often not making the overlapping run for Scarles which would have been far more dangerous. I also thought Adama looked rusty (being generous). I think 3 of his first 4 touches were errors to give the ball away, so I'd probably integrate him slowly.

Hermansen - KWP Mavropanos Kilman Scarles - Orford Engels - Bowen Mukasa Austbo - Piroe

If either of Pablo or Taty are fit then I'd want them in the side.
  • It's a pity the Caribou Cup isn't next up. Then Nuno could give the new lads and young lads a game, without any jeopardy. As it is, resting the big lads may be dangerous, and playing the big lads may wear them out.🤔
  • That is why we need strength in depth in the squad so rotating players in certain positions doesn't majorly affect the overall team performance.
  • Kuching is there not jeopardy in going out of the cup
  • I don't think now is the time to worry about resting and rotating. We have four games (including a cup game that we're unlikely to give much of a hoot about) until a 3 week international break where most of our players will get a decent rest.

alderz, It's a good thing we aren't playing Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup then! =)
  • Where are we lacking in depth Fortune?

I'd personally stick with Solomon, along with Mukasa IMO he's been one of the most creative players this season so far....

Also if Adama/Boiro looked rusty, that sounds like he needs some game time perhaps.....

He has experience in a big European league and an away night game at Bolton might just be the introduction he needs.....or not !
  • @IronHerb, My message didn't say "needed" as an indication we are lacking, it said need as we have to be able to cover certain positions over the long season ahead to enable us to rotate players and in case of injuries and suspensions. Did we get all the players we could have in the last window probably not, but we just have to get on with it now until January.

When I said "rusty" I was trying to find a nicer and more patient way of saying that I thought he looked useless! I'm sure with time he'll come good, but there was nothing in his performance that made me think he should displace Scarles, who - I thought - had a good game excluding one or two brainfart moments. I'd like to see Boiro get the last half hour, and then maybe eventually replace Scarles a game or two down the line.
  • We’ve never won at their stadium in 11 visits

We’ve never won at their stadium in 11 visits

But it was never called the Toughsheet Community Stadium though !!! That name, if you say it quickly it half sounds like something else you might say to someone..........

So we're not lacking depth then as we have all bases covered, maybe not to everyones liking, but we do.

This is Bolton's first season back in the Championship after a seven season absence which included a season in League Two.

They lost to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao, beat Preston, drew at QPR but have lost three in a row; Lincoln, Sheffield United and Millwall.

Two of their four goals have come from CF Simon Dalby who was top scorer last season

They'll be without Welsh international CM Josh Sheehan who got sent off at the weekend

Steven Schumacher has been manager for 18 months, has previously managed Stoke and Plymouth in the Championship. Despite the name he's from Liverpool not Germany

Last time we visited was 9 April 2011 when it was called the Reebok and we lost 3-0

Other than that, not a lot...
  • I don't know IronHerb want do you think? =)

We have two good CDM's that we could use but NES doesn't appear to want to?
  • It may not have been called the Toughsheet stadium when it opened but since it opened we’ve never won there. 11 visits and a couple of draws is our best effort.
  • Kuching is there not jeopardy in going out of the cup

Minimal, because we have the Big Lads ready to use as subs if needed. Whereas we can't do that against Bolton.

That's okay, calling a player useless, or is it....!!!! I'm again NOT being serious.....
I know you're smart enough not to form an opinion of a player after just a cameo performance.....
  • People can be very quick to form an opinion about a player & have been proved in the past that they can be wrong, we have had a manager or two to do that and it's proved very costly for the club.
  • I don't know IronHerb want do you think? =)

I think we're fine. As for the two CDM's, one is injured and one, apparently, is looking for another club.
