  • Austbo takes 35 shirt.

So that gives us Bowen, Solomon, Mukasa, Lamadrid, Ajala & Austbo as our attacking options between the striker & midfield.

Taty, Piroe & Pablo up front.

Just that left side of defence to urgently sort.
  • LB and CB loans now I assume
  • Austbø £18m
    Solomon £5m
    Engels £22m
    Piroe £10m (obligation)

    £55m

Not a bad spend for a Championship side.
  • Austbo being reported as “between 10 and 18”
  • Bit young then =)
  • Morato is an obvious signing as he covers LCB & LB. Could end up replacing Kilman, playing in a back three or competing with Scarles/Mayers. Only 25, was in the Europa League team of the season last year.

Free Agents / Out of contract defenders
  • Bit surprised we arent after Webster, kind of a solid pro / Veltman(ish) move imo
  • Tyrell Malacia would be ideal too
  • Zinchenko 👍.
  • Alverez had a good season under Moyes (albeit with too many cards) which. is an occupational hazard for a DM, it was Potter who showed him the door.

I think when you look at his profile, Mexico international, still fairly young, defensive midfield player, cost nearly £40m, captain, player at Ajax successfully - why is nobody wanting him?

He was ‘ok’ under Moyes, but he’s got no pace, gets caught out of position before his lack of pace to get back shows & is reckless & rash in his play. There is a reason even Fenerbache didn’t fancy him for long.
  • Urgent.

    Zinchenko 👍.

….i agree, but not sure he’s back from injury yet(?).
  • Cornet used to play LWB 👀

Honestly what happened to him? Was in really good form at Burnley and didn’t have the worst start for us. Got injured and fell off a cliff. I haven’t even heard of him being linked to anyone but he’s nowhere near playing for us either. Successive managers won’t event give him a chance.

Can’t wait for his story repeated on every podcast ever in about five years.
  • Isn't it his wages that is the main reason for wanting to get rid of Alvarez?

And write off the 40 mil we paid for him? whoever we replace him with will want some wages.

He took a very long time to fully recover from his injury, if he even is fully recovered now. I seem to remember it turned out to be an extremely unusual injury and I don't think he'll ever be the player he was before it happened.

Look at the goal he scored against Everton when he sprinted the length of the pitch to chip it over Pickford.

His wages will have halved and we need around £12m to break even, as that's his book value to West Ham.

I'd be happy to keep him but he would need to buckle down.

But that’s not what a defensive midfielder is for. That’s like signing a striker because they’re good at defending corners. You still need them to do their actual job properly
  • A central defensive midfielder (CDM) shields the backline, breaks up opposition attacks, and acts as a bridge between the defense and the attack.

    Core Defensive Duties

Protect the defense: Position themselves directly in front of the center-backs to block passing lanes and stop opposing forwards.Win the ball back: Use tackling and interceptions to regain possession.Plug gaps: Cover space left behind when full-backs or central defenders move out of position.

    Core Offensive Duties

Recycle possession: Play simple, safe passes to keep the ball moving and retain control.Initiate attacks: Act as a deep-lying playmaker or "quarterback" to launch forward passes or switch play to wingers.Relieve pressure: Offer an easy passing option for defenders who are being pressed by opponents.

    Alvarez does this job.

Great, and if he doesnt want to play for us then he wont be doing that job

Do we know for definite that he doesn't want to play for us, or is it possibly NES doesn't want him ? Do any of you know this.......
  • This conversation is so circular

Sorry @alderz did you have a problem with my post ? If so, apologies, it was just I read something that a player doesn't want to play for us, and I wanted to know if he's actually said that ( Alvarez )....Anyhow, I guess it doesn't matter....
  • GP sent him off to Turkey, but soon after NES came in there was a report, sorry no links, that said Nuno would like him to return to play for us. He did start v Portsmouth so answers on a postcard about what is actually going on.

No, not your post at all.

I just mean that I think every day for the entirity of August I have seen some variation of "Player X doesn't want to be here", "We don't know that, what if Nuno doesn't make Player X feel wanted?", "We don't know that, we were relegated so it makes ense that Player X doesn't want to be here", "But if Nuno did more maybe they wouldn't", and nobody's position has ever moved an inch.

Guess you could classify all that as some form of speculation, whether it's repetitive or boring...Perhaps, yeh, Oh well it'll be over tomorrow at 2pm....!!
