    We are a championship side and as such can’t expect players currently at PL clubs to jump at a chance to join us. Most players I would hope would want to play at the highest level but we can’t guarantee that potential new recruits would get that next season which makes it difficult.

    But, but we’re West Ham! Surely they’re queuing up to join!

    Who else would you have kept of our best players (given we got relegated so can’t have many)?

    Our better players would have been:

    Mavropanos
    Diouf
    Souček
    Fernandes
    Bowen
    Summerville
    Taty

    Lukerz, It's really a pointless exercise for me to mention the players we could/should have kept because the response will be they didn't want to stay so what do you expect. When DK made the bold statement I genuinely, foolishly, believed we would have a stronger starting line up than we currently have. I have a bucket load of custard ready for end of the season to eat many portions of humble pie with but I feel atm based on our current squad it will be left uneaten. That could of course change at the closure of both the transfer windows.

    I just wanted to hit the ground running so that we could attract a few more quality players.

    If we get 3 or 4 good signings without selling anymore by Tuesday, I will be happy.

    As someone said earlier, 2 or 3 good loans from Premier League is probably the best way forward.

    I agree but it gives opportunities for others; like Orford, Ajala etc - our squad depth is weak on the assumption those options aren’t good enough, but what if they are good enough against 50%-75% of the league? That changes the picture. Same goes for Mayers, Golambeckis etc.

    I am not saying they are or are not, but the depth looks better if they replicate what they showed Tuesday.

    I accept you’re not saying they are or aren’t good enough….
    But if we want to go back up at the 1st attempt we need better than being 50-75% better than the rest of the league, that % needs to be higher IMO

    I fear I am a little late to this party but he never said "many". He said "as many as possible" and if we had turned down the offers for Fernandes or Summerville the owners would have been blasted and we would have had a Defoe situation on our hands that wouldn't help us at all. How many red cards did he get himself before we sold him?

    Not aimed at you as such Fortune, you are entitled to your opinion of course, but to post the same thing multiple times a day and then write "That could of course change at the closure of both the transfer windows.' seems to me as you could wait and see like the rest of us. The time to vent is once it's done and dusted, if it's not to your liking.

    Lukerz, IF we had 7/8 players performing at a rate of 8 or 9 out of ten every game then we could possibly accomodate some of the youngsters but it would take a massive effort to achieve that due to the number of games we will play this season & that is just in the league. We curently haven't got sufficient options within the squad to be able to rotate players through the season as we will get injuries and suspensions.

    Well the kids were alright last match. If you can't give them chances in the Champo then there's not much point to having a youth setup.

    I assumed Mikel Gogorza was Spanish. But born in Norway, plays for Denmark, has a French passport because of his Basque mother.
