  • Parachute payments will have helped surely?

    Year 1: Around 55% (roughly £49 million)
    Year 2: Around 45% (roughly £40 million)
Year 3: Around 20% (roughly £18–£22 million, only for clubs that stayed in the Premier League for more than one season)

Has any club on the Championship so far this window spent more than £49 million? There are some very good deals to be done out there still after we have let our rivals make some decent signings. Yes I am aware we can't buy players until the ones we don't want leave but money has come in to enable us to do some transfers.
  • We have done some transfers though…?
  • How many have left, is it 10 so far (not including Diouf with Alvarez, JCT and JWP to be added to that number?) and how many have signed, I believe it's six?
  • We have sold c.£160m and bought c.£30m so far. We needed to pay c.£100m to keep our finances above board with the Prem.
So we are not awash with cash but still looking to invest.

So parachute payments don't exist for us but only for the other relegated teams?

We don't actually need to spend lots of money there are plenty of bargains available in France or Scandinavia. There is rumours of the Mexican international captain moving for just £8 million.

We’ve also promoted Orford and Kanté into the first team - which I for one am pleased about.

And you can’t count Alvarez and Fullkrug when they weren’t here last year, IMO. They don’t make the squad weaker or depleted if they weren’t in the squad.

The wages to turnover is the biggest issue, Fortune (not really transfer fees).

Our revenue plummets in this league, hence the sales to soften the financial blow. As a result, wages have to come down. Given we have kept several players, likely on PL wages, it won’t leave us a lot of room for new signings, especially if their wages are big (& whilst the likes of Todibo, Alvarez are still here). 👍

We are doing everything to increase revenue - hence the Elite kit launch, the new trainers, streaming games internationally for a fee, sponsors on every part of the kit.
  • alderz, I didn't include Fullkrug but I know it's a bone of contention the players I did mention are better than some of the ones we are left with IMO. So unless we acquire some new recruits who are of a similar ability the squad is going to a weaker one?

Lukerz, Isn't part of the problem that the wages have dropped that is why lots of the players are looking to leave apart from their inability to give us hopefully only one season in the Championship? Revenue may plummet but that is why Parachute payments were introduced to offset some of the loss.

Alvarez is reported to be going for £8 million.
  • The wages have dropped but that is irrelevant if our revenue has dropped dramatically too. The rules are your squads wages must be a certain percentage of overall turnover. It doesn’t matter if our wages are now £1m a year (they won’t be), if our revenue is now £800,000 (which it also won’t be), for example.
  • How many season tickets did we sell - 50,000?

I genuinely don't believe we can't sign the number of decent new players required to strengthen the staring line up let alone them to be squad members.

Fortune - but if our wages are close to or at the limit, we can’t. It’s that straightforward. I don’t know what the wages are, but I can’t say for certain we have the wriggle room to make more signings.

Sorry if it feels like I’m labouring a point or going after you, it’s not the intention I promise.

But surely we should expect a weaker squad overall - we are in a lower division. We can’t expect Premier League quality signings in the Championship, can we?
  • ST's were discounted by between 10% and 30% a decent income but still down.

We get the parachute payment of £44m which means we are about £132m down on last years EPL/SKY income.

You seem to expect that no other club loses players when relegated, but they do.

If Alvarez is going for £8m then that is all other clubs value the international captain at.

We will comfortably have the largest match day revenues and therefore turnover but the player costs still need to be within the 85% rule.

Oh, and our rent has halved saving us c.£2m a season.

Lukerz, As the song goes Then like my dreams, they fade and die.

No Alderz we probably can't but not to labour a point better players are out there who could go someway to replacing those who are leaving & are going to allow us to gently help the introduction of the younger players. From the squad that started last season it appears we could be losing a dozen or more and to think replacing them with 6 currently is a good plan!

As you might have realised I find it frustrating that it's acceptable for this to be the case after what DK said earlier this year & there appears to be no evidence anyone is trying to resolve whatever the issue is.
  • I don't mind all the commenting during the window as it's taking shape as that's what a forum is for but regard a concluding judgment we have to wait until the end, as we wouldn't review a meal in a restaurant until it was completed. At this point I think it's looking more than OK and when we get a solid centre back as a main signing I will be very happy.

Soucek will also be a talent in this division and we haven't seen him yet.

Sensible - was another really short sighted signing at the time, although he was decent in his first season, £30m was a lot for really a good set play & some economical passing. Nuno clearly won’t use him so let’s move him on.

Nailed on that he scores a freekick at the London Stadium later this season.
  • But for £1 million and people question why we haven't got a transfer budget!

You most certainly need to add a LB IMO to that list....

Players are only worth what people want to pay for them
  • Ex reporting we are in talks with Michael Keane at Everton who is available

    Current midfield & attack options

    Orford - Engels
    Bowen - Mukasa - Solomon
    Taty

    Magassa - Kanté
    Lamadrid - Pablo - Ajala
    Piroe

Plus Souček to come in (I left Cornet & Alvarez out)

    Defensive options

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Kilman - Scarles

    Areola
    Veltman - Golambeckis - Casey - Mayers

This is the weakest area (on paper)

I wonder if this is led by us, freeing up funds for elsewhere, not using up a loan spot & still being able to sign him 🤔
  • We need at least 3 probably 5 more players if we are to be serious about going back up

I know there are financial rules etc etc

    But squad depth is everything.

Just imagine if just one or two of our key players get a bad injury.
  • They shouldn’t have to be free transfers either as some are now starting to ask where has all the money gone & no I can’t supply their names and addresses.
  • Because you’re the only one
