    Nuno is clearly shaping us for the task at hand with proven Championship level players. I think it looks like a strategy even if it's not fully in place yet. I fully expect to see a CB and attacker coming in, after which it will look a pretty rounded window I feel sure.

    I think that is a very simplistic view. The players we have or are allowing to leave would give us greater strength in depth. There may be a few reasons why they want to leave and I don't believe it is only the drop in status. The problem is we aren't replacing them with players of a similar ability or better and not at the same rate as they are leaving?

    If Magassa and Alvarez both depart we’re also going to need another CM IMO , I have no idea what Engels is like but we’ll be shorting that area as well as at present a CB, guess we’ll see at the end of the window….

    I think I am not bothered as I don’t rate any of the players. I never rated Alvarez (still don’t), Magassa is poor (albeit maybe he’ll be better one day in the future), Todibo is slow & average - so I’d rather they just went. I imagine they would all be ok in the championship as it’s a lower level, but I don’t rate the players overall. Get them gone & then see if we can get a couple of bodies in that offer us more.

    Your way of thinking is ok as long as replacements are found IMO

    Looks as if you are going to get your wish Lukerz, hopefully we will get an International captain to replace Alvarez. I have to wonder why Palace want to sign Magassa possibly because their manager knows him from his time in France, you could say the same about Todibo.

    I think by the end of the window we will see the side Nuno feels will be strong enough to win promotion in place. I think he is being backed and that he has a vision for the side he needs. From what I have seen so far I am inclined to trust him on it. He most certainly will be judged on it soon enough.

    reading reportedly have debts of borrowings is now £130.6m after banking from the sell-on clause for Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. I guess they are looking for low priced players to stay afloat.

    No Diouf in the squad against Charlton, most likely on his way out the club. Hopefully Brentford pony up a decent chunk. Magassa maybe on his way too another not in the squad but he has had injury issues.

    WHU season is yet to take-off and I wonder who from the EPL regulars will remain. In addition to the recent exodus of first-teamers, Todbo, Alvarez, Diouf and Magassa are expected to move on before the transfer window closes. That leaves us with Taty, Pablo, KWP, Kilman, Mavropanus, Hermansen and Scarles who had any EPL experience, and that doesn't mean that they will excel in championship. Soucek is injured and is likely to stay.

    Huge task to bring is good new players. Even bigger, to integrate them but teams like Ipswich, Fulham and Burnley have done that in recent years. Will Nuno be bale to do the same?

    I had a look earlier at the number of players who stayed with us when we got relegated in 1978, I know some on here weren't even born then & its decades ago but anyway Eight were part of the record breaking team that come back up three years later. How many of last seasons regulars are still with us now?

    IF we don't bring in some serious new recruits this window I wouldn't blame Bowen for thinking about leaving. He could just as well move sooner than later instead of wasting a season toiling in the Championship to fail because the squad isn't good enough.

    Things were very different in 1978 (I was 17 with hair!!!)

    Back then Trevor Brooking was the only international in our squad, he asked if he needed to move to a First Division club to stay in contention for England but Ron Greenwood assured him he'd pick Brooking regardless of which league he played in

    When we were relegated in 2011 Scott Parker was told he wouldn't get called up unless he was playing in the top flight

    There were other England internationals in 1978, John Radford had been capped twice in 1969 and 1971, Frank Lampard had been capped once in 1972 (he got a second cap in 1980) but Alvin Martin wasn't capped until 1981

    Yes they were ASLEF I also had hair =) but the message is still the same we aren't hanging onto most of our best players when according to DK we were going to.

    Still need that emoji though. How many days to go until the transfer window closes and no major incomings!

    I wonder if Harvey Elliot may be suited to reviving his career at a Championship club? He isn't likely to get many offers at the top table anytime soon and Liverpool wouldn't ask too much as he only has a year left on his contract.

    I see we were linked with Ethan Pinnock, but he has agreed to sign for Coventry. Again, hard to compete with a PL/top division club for any signing in our position.

    Are there any talented, cheap CBs in the football league, who just like defending?

    Really can't see him dropping down to the Championship, I'm sure he'll get offers to play in a top division, either in the PL or elsewhere in Europe.
