As agents sort nearly everything anyway and medical are held anywhere in the world I doubt it will make much difference.
We also currently only have 2 confirmed players in the World Cup.
All depends too on who we want to shift.
  • thorn, The majority of the players I want us to keep are going to be the ones we unfortunately have to let go.
  • According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire on Talksport we still owe £196m in transfer fees at the end of 2025 and we were losing £2m a week.

We're going to need the board to fund the club otherwise we're not going to be signing anyone even if we sell a bunch of players

  • Right at the end 🤦‍♂️

  • But when is that £196m due? is it this financial year or over 4 or 5 years?
  • Apparently the club's financial report didn't specify how much has to be paid by the end of 2026 but if you take that we were already losing money as a Premier club and our revenue will go down as a Championship club we're not in a good place financially.

The board are going to have to inject cash into the club but I imagine PSR will limit how much they can invest
  • PSR doesn’t exist from this summer, in England anyway. It’s Squad Cost Ratio now, and the penalty for exceeding is a fine, I believe. If the owners want to stump up money to get us back into the Premier League they do have the option to do so.
  • A fine and possible points deduction.
  • Is there some sort of leeway for relegated sides? Seems unreasonable to expect that they will be in the best financial shape after relegation.
  • Parachute payments.

WHU 2024/25 annual accounts are here.

Note 16 on page under the heading "Creditors Amounts falling due after more than one year" said:
"The undiscounted value of creditors arising from player transfers due within one year is £112.9m (2024: £101.4m) and due after more than one year is £98.6m (2024: £103.2m).

Creditors arising from player transfers include a total of £14.0m payable to a Russian football club. The Club is currently prevented from making this payment due to the sanctions imposed by the UK Government. Despite the Russian club taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the ruling was upheld by CAS in favour of West Ham United which confirmed that payment could not be made due to the sanctions."

It is probably for the above reason that the financial statements show the Creditors arising from player transfers and due after more than one year from the balance sheet date (31 May 2025) at £84.9m.
  • £84.9m sounds like a perfect fit for a Bowen and a Summerville!
  • The Athletic linking us with 21yo Sheffield Utd's DM/CM Sydie Peck (England U21, good passer) and 20yo Cardiff City CB Dylan Lawlor

Guess Peck would be the Fernandes replacement
  • Hartlepool United have signed Jordan Hugill
  • Football Insider reckon we're after Stade Rennais' 21yo Welsh CM/DM Jordan James, spent last season on loan at Leicester and was named Championship Young Player of the Year despite Leicester getting relegated

Rennes signed him from Birmingham for £4m in 2024, Leicester had a £5m option to buy if they stayed in the Championship

Bad news; L’Equipe reckon they are now asking £20m with Leeds, Villarreal and Atalanta all linked
  • We’re not signing anybody until we start selling, the longer that takes the more trouble we’ll be in
  • It’s still early doors, the window doesn’t open until Monday 15th June so we might even do a deal for Fernandes before then

Real Madrid and PSG both rumored to be interested
  • We are never getting £80m - but I imagine it’s simply a way of saying he’s not going to go easily.

We’ll end up with around £50m if we are lucky, & it will be determined by how many interested parties there are. A club in the championship is not in a position to ask for ridiculous money & it will harm us because the longer it takes to sell him, the longer our rebuild takes.
  • On the other hand, if he stays for a season and we win promotion we’d be better off hanging on to him.

Unfortunately the state of our finances means it's almost certain that he'll be sold.
  • Mmm

I don’t see how we can buy anybody until we sell. It also looks as though it might be hard to keep hold of the likes of Kante who I like a lot. Some French clubs like him.

What we don’t want is to be selling just before or on deadline day.
  • If Fernandes is as good as some have said we should be getting more than 50m but I feel sure some club friends in the press must be talking him up for us. He is a good player, with bags of potential, and the type who could really propel us back from the Championship, yet he has one friendly cap for Portugal, didn't even make their squad and has been relegated two seasons on the trot. That profile doesn't exactly shout Real Madrid's next midfield maestro!

I have said I think we will keep one of the big three, Bowen, Fernandes, Summerville. I suspect and hope it's Bowen.
  • lolololol 🤪

Real Madrid are set to join the race to sign Portugal midfielder Mateus Fernandes, 21, following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League. (Sun)
  • I read the Real Madrid rumour a few days ago, apparently it was all dependent on Mourinho becoming manager as he wants Fernandes and Mourinho’s appointment was dependent on Perez being re-elected president

    Perez got re-elected last night
  • Rather he went there then a prem club
  • Yes so would I steve as long as they pay a decent amount for him & not do what most EPL clubs would do and drive the price down.
  • Being realistic, whilst it would be great to hang onto him, in our position getting north of £75m would have to go in the good business column.
