Is this enough to oust David Sullivan from West Ham? Panorama are planning on showing at expose on BBC this Friday 29th May at 19:30 based around "alleged" sexual offences. Will Sullivan still meet the "fit & proper" ownership test?

    I hate that sort of 'expose'. It's just gossip and mudslinging and trashy 'journalism'. If there's evidence, take it to the police. If not, shut up.

    Well I certainly won’t be prejudging until I’ve seen the programme and heard what, if any, evidence there is.

    I would have thought that if there was any hard evidence that old bill would have taken action already.

    But how many Panorama, BBC investigations, and others, have been taken on by the police once the 'programme' has aired?

    We don't know whether the allegations are true or not but some investigative reporters think there is something wrong.

    While I broadly agree, I would say that allegations of sexual assaults in particular have pathetically low prosecution rates. I’m glad in those cases journalists take them more seriously than the police often seem to do

    The problem is allegations are often enough to ruin reputations and even end peoples livelihoods. That is why we have the law so that allegations can be investigated and evidence tried. If you amplify the allegations yet never proceed it to trial of evidence then the person with the ability to megaphone any allegation becomes very powerful, the News of the World were the kings of this stuff back in the day. I am all in favour of expose's as long as the people alleging are also making criminal complaint.

    Russel Brand will be a perfect example of this. There was a televised expose but it was followed by criminal investigation and he will get the chance to be tried in court later this year. If found not guilty the programme could have been responsible for removing his means of making a living without sufficient weight of evidence. If he is found guilty then the programme will have performed a great service to justice.
