  • Alvarez had surgery on his ankle in February and could be back for Fenerbahce at the beginning of April according to Mexican FA official Duilio Davino (ESPN). He's currently with the Mexican squad for their friendlies (he's captain)

Turksih website haberler.com say Fenerbahce have decided not to take up the £19m option to buy so he'll be coming back

Fullkrug started AC Milan's win over Torino but was subbed after 70 minutes without scoring, bringing his total appearances to 14

Italian journo Andrea Longoni (goal.com/) says that Milan have also decided not to take up the option so he's another one coming back

Cornet is injured again, possibly splinters in the backside as he's not got off the Genoa bench for the last 5 games. Just 7 appearances, one start back in October
  • 5 million Euros for a German international striker what a bargain.

1 goal in 15 for them, I think it is now.
  • Or to look at it another way I believe its 14 goals in 24 international matches. He won't be the first striker who we haven't played to his strengths (Haller, Scamacca). It would be interesting to see how he would do getting on the end of some of Diouf's crosses.

I thought that Scamacca was pretty decent after watching his goals for us.
  • Said at the time it was a bad signing, you don't drop 30m on a 31 year old with previous history of ACL damage. Absolute madness of a signing. The club didn't learn from the Haller and Scamacca signings, 6 ft 6 signings with zero pace does not work in the PL for us.

1 in 16, came on at half time when AC were losing 2-0 at home to Udinese, managed one shot on goal, ended 3-0

He's only started 3 times but they've got Pulisic, Nkunku (£36m in the summer) and Leao (Chelsea and Barcelona both sniffing around, €50) so he was never going to get much game time
  • Nuno knew what we needed, a Tatty. he might lack top end ability like Summerville or Bowen, but boy will he run for you and treat every minute on the pitch like his last on this earth.
  • I don't understand this idea that Taty lacks top end ability. I think he's a very skilful player who's rapidly getting used to the PL. Pablo's the one I'm not sure of.
  • I love Pablo. He works so hard, and I think him being on the pitch makes us better, despite the fact he doesn't seem to do much other than run around.

That assist for Taty's first was both excellent and unnecessarily flash.
  • Matt Kemp at C&H reckons Alvarez could be heading back to Ajax although no links to support that.

Good if true but that still leaves Ward-Prowse, Fullkrug and Cornet in the "bomb squad".

Various sources linking us with Rennes' French U21 CM Djaoui Cisse who we supposedly tried to sign in the summer for €25 (£21m) although he's also linked with Leeds and Arsenal
  • That’s a surprising turn of events.
  • I love Mavro but If I look objectively his upturn in form has come since Disasi arrived. It would be hard to think Mavro has suddenly aquired a whole new level at 28. The likelIhood is he really fits working with Disasi, and so if a good offer came I could see why we may take it, especially if it helped us buy Disasi.

I would like Mavro to stay but I don't really expect him to hold this current form as its very different to what has been seen since he first arrived.
  • Ex says
“West Ham are readying a new deal for Mavropanos following his personally impressive season. The club feel he’s now stepping up into a more senior role within the squad under Nuno, and it’s felt he deserves to be rewarded now as a higher profile player.”

  • PSG are interested in Fernandes, we just can’t retain a good midfielder when we get one.
  • Has he gone then?

    “Interested” is the pertinent word.
  • Fernandes has already been linked with Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal...

As with Rice and Rio, we're never going to keep a "Royal Royce" at a "Ford Fiesta" club
  • I can't see it myself, he is a good player but he is not PSG good or City good, I doubt he would get much game time there but be very good back up.

Should we go down I think Bowen and Summerville would be the only players we would get serious big offers for. Fernandes, AWB, Diouf would all attract offers but not the type that would turn your head. Oh and I have no doubt the first person at the door with a wallet open would be Davey Moyes asking for Soucek.
  • Fernandes is just 21, will be 22 in July, so he's got a lot of developing to do.

He might not PSG or City good right now but he could be in 2 or 3 years by which time his price tag will have increased substantially

But you wrote "we just can’t retain a good midfielder when we get one." inferring he's gone.

Well that’s what you took out of it, he quite obviously hadn’t gone.
  • I think selling is an important part of football these days. We've not been great at it, but I think it's important to sell when you have a big bid in. I'm hoping we can get another year or so out of Fernandes, but I've been expecting Summerville to be the sale this summer.
  • Will the club need or want to sell if we stay up?? Asking for a friend... 🤔
  • Idk, but I think they should. It’s how the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford grow. Sell at peak value and reinvest.
  • The problem isn't selling, its buying

The likes of Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford find good players for very little

We're not very good at that

Even if we stay up we lost £104.2m last year, either we sell or the owners put more cash into the club
  • It's both. You can't sell well without buying well. We made money on Kudus, but he's an extreme outlier. Summerville and Fernandes may have been expensive purchases, but both definitely have the potential to by sold at large profit.
