Brighton away 2pm Sunday 7 December

About time ASLEF started the Brighton match thread methinks.

Day off yesterday

Brighton were unbeaten at home until Wednesday when they surrendered a 2-goal lead and lost 3-4 to Villa

They're pretty much the same team as last season minus CF Joao Pedro and LB Pervis Estupinan (AC Milan). They did sign Greek CF Charalampos Kostoulas (Olympiacos £30m) who hasn't played much and Belgian LB Maxim De Cuyper (Club Brugge £17.3m) who has been back up for Turkish LB Ferdi Kadioglu

Other signings were England U21 RW Tom Watson (Sunderland £10m) and Italian U21 CB Diego Coppola (Hellas Verona £9m) neither who've had much game time

They've got a few injuries. CB Adam Webster and RW Solomon March haven't played at all this season while CM James Milner had mostly been a substitute before going missing November

Greece U21 Stefanos Tzimas (spent last season onloan at FC Nuremburg of Bundesliga 2) scored his first Premier League goal against Forest at the weekend and was handed his first Premier League start against Villa. He lasted 24 minutes before he had to go off with a knee injury and isn't expected back for a while

Bigger worries are CM Yasin Ayari, AM/CF Georginio Rutter and LW Kaoru Mitoma who all face late fitness tests

As always Danny Wellbeck is top scorer

Usual suspects

Vebruggen
Weiffer vanHecke Dunk Kadioglu
Baleba Gomez
Minteh Rutter??? Mitoma???
Wellbeck

Right, back to work

  • So am I right in thinking you do this on work time ASLEF .Asking for a friend =)

    Areola
    Wan-Bissaka - Mavropanos - Todibo - Diouf
    Potts - Magassa - Fernandes
    Bowen - Wilson - Paquetá

Sit deep, play on counter, time-waste, slow game down, break up play, win cheap fouls, beautiful

    3-0 Brighton
  • More interesting in who will be on the bench
  • Summerville might well make the bench according to Nuno's presser, but I don't think there was any mention of Fullkrug or Guilherme, so goodness knows if they were injured or just omitted from Thursday's squad.

Meal break, at White City. Had an hour so wasn’t quite my usual “deep dive”

I was - we played ok

Could still have lost 4-1 on the chances they had, given how bad they played, but fair enough
  • That’s the spirit

It’s just stating what it is. I’m not dispirited, I feel we may be ‘slowly’ turning a corner. But let’s not pretend it’s anything other than an awful situation. Everton went to United the other week & won with 10 men. Before that we meekly surrendered to Liverpool who haven’t won since against two newly promoted clubs. It was a decent point & an ‘ok’ performance but we have to dramatically improve & start winning games. 3 wins & it’s nearly Xmas. Hard not to be slightly pessimistic. A performance & 3 points tomorrow will change that, but I don’t see that happening. It’s only 2nd & 3rd afterwards.
  • LB Maxim De Cuyper has been playing LW while Mitoma has been injured the last two games, German U21 RW Brajan Gruda played AM against Villa in Rutter’s absence

Sign a real strong, leader CB & a half decent ST in Jan & we may well be ok second half of season. But alternating between Mavro & Kilman & relying on Wilson is not a great position to be in. Anyway, let’s hope for a decent result today.

33yo RB Joel Veltman and local hero utility player Jack Hinshelwood have both been on the bench recently after recovering from injury but otherwise Hurzeler doesn’t have a lot of depth to the squad
  • Neither do we unfortunately

Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Todibo, Diouf, Rodríguez, Fernandes, Paquetá, Summerville, Bowen
Subs: Hermansen (GK), Mayers, Walker-Peters, Magassa, Souček, Potts, Irving, Wilson, Füllkrug

What on earth have Potts and Magassa done to deserve to be dropped??? And for Rodriguez?????

Back 3 by the looks of it. Summerville starting is a surprise, but neither Wilson nor Fullkrug start, although at least the latter is back on the bench.
  • Can’t wait for the 4-0
  • Don’t think one of us would’ve predicted that line up… but as always, COYI ⚒️⚒️⚒️
  • That's a terrible 11 what on earth is Nuno thinking
  • Potts & Magassa must have knocks
  • Magassa and Potts are young and can play 3 games in a week .Was looking forward to this .Not anymore .Brighton will be licking there lips .So upset
  • Why on the bench then

This is right up there with one of Nuno's worst starting XIs, and that's really saying something. I'm really gutted tbh.
  • I mean is he a good manager or not? Some of his line-ups are pretty shambolic
  • Pretty much as expected

    Vebruggen
    Weiffer vanHecke Dunk Kadioglu
    Baleba Gomez
    Minteh Rutter DeCuyper
    Wellbeck

No Mitoma or Atari but Rutter fit so Gruda on the bench
  • Maybe Potts and Magassa are just kids and need a rest?
  • That line up is really annoying.
  • Another one of Baldrick's cunning plans?
  • Hope the players aren't as confused and disheartened as I am by that line up. Come on you Irons.
  • Maybe Potts and Magassa are just kids and need a rest?

    21 year olds?

Not sure of this team. either Nuno is a tactical genius or is having a funny turn again. No Potts, Magassa or Wilson in the starting line up. Are two games in quick succession too much for them? We play better with a CF as an atatcking focal point.
