Crawley goes for 76, a wishy washy pull shot that he under-edges through to the keeper, 122-3.
  • Brook goes for 31 with a rash shot as Starc is re-introduced to the attack. 176-4.
  • 196-4 at tea, Root unbeaten on 68 as he looks for his first ton in a Test in Australia.
  • Australia burn a second review in a desperate attempt to remove Root; it was a poor review as the impact was well outside the line.
  • Disaster, Stokes sets off for a quick single that was never there, Root sends him back and the fielder hits directly when little more than one stump to aim at. 210-5.

Smith goes for a duck, 211-6.
  • Root goes into the 90's for the first time in a Test in Australia. Consecutive boundaries see him on 96.

Very poor by Jacks; he had a wild swing at a very wide delivery and missed it, but he repeats the shot to a slightly less wide delivery the next ball and edges to the slips. 251-7. Root on 98 as Atkinson joins him in the middle.
  • Ton up for Root.

Atkinson gone, 264-8. 5 wickets for Starc.
  • Carse goes for a duck, 264-9, Starc with another one.
  • Root reverse scoops for 6 😂🤣😂 to bring up a 50 partnership for the last wicket.
  • 325-9 at the close, with Root unbeaten on 135 and Archer on 32, his highest Test score. 61 very important runs added so far for the last wicket. Australia know they'll have to start in the field tomorrow.

Only 9 runs added this morning and Australia needed just 14 balls to take the final wicket. Root remained unbeaten on 138, with Archer falling to a very good catch for 38.

334 probably about a par score, but it took that last wicket partnership of 70 to get there.

A bad drop by Smith off Archer gives Head a life on 3, 30-0.
  • Finally a breakthrough, Carse has Head caught by Atkinson for 33, 77-1.
  • Some very average bowling allows Australia to reach 130-1 at lunch, off just 21 overs.
  • Archer strikes and has Weatherald lbw for 72, which brings the cheat Smith to the crease. 146-2.
  • Stokes strikes, with Labuschagne edging behind to Smith who makes no mistake this time. 196-3.
  • The cheat Smith gets hit on the elbow and seems to be in some discomfort, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
  • 228-3 at tea, a better bowling performance in this session, but need to hope that we make some early breakthroughs in the final session of the day.
  • Finally England take another wicket, with Carse bowling Green. 291-4, just 43 runs behind.
  • Duckett gives Carey a life the very next ball, putting down a catch.
  • But Smith then goes with a great catch by Jacks off Carse. 292-5.
  • Duckett puts down another chance, again not an easy one but they have to stick. Australia only 5 behind now.
  • The latest drop doesn't prove costly as Stokes bowls Inglis, 329-6.
