Darmian was one of the few I kept and was a good pick. I think he'll be first choice RB for Utd ( backed up by reports and he seems impressive ) Valencia seems too expensive for someone who wont play regularly.
As you said dont answer I'll stop short of suggesting a replacement ( that took will power! )
Here's my current pool of defenders. Picked for price + potential for assist/scoring + early season fixtures
Kompany 6.0 - Yes, if I could afford him
Clyne 5.5 - preferred for attacking potential to Gomez, depends if I want the 1M for somewhere else
Darmian 5.5 - Think as said he'll stay in as first choice and he'll be a threat going forward
Schlupp 5.0 - Preferred Leicester 'defender' as he plays in MF and is a goal and assist threat so IMO a good price for what he offers
Johnson 5.0 - has always scored/assisted. Stoke are solid too and I rechecked their fixtures plus they aren't as bad as I envisaged
Soares 5.0 - I want him as he seems a good assister& quick but wondering if it was match fitness that got him subbed at H/T or whether he & Martina will share RB
Gomez 4.5 - Price attractive and seemed to impress
Huth 4.5 - Good price and goal scoring potential
Coleman 6.0 - Like him but Everton's early fixtures are poor
Rose 5.5 - A threat but Injured & Spurs early fixtures not that great
Bellerin 5.5 - Like him but injured & Arsenals fixtures aren't great
Kolarov 5.5 - Always a goal/assist threat but is subject to rotation too much
Francis 4.5 - Jury out after 1st game but price & assist potential
Oxford 4.0 - Price attractive but doubt he'll play a lot
Targett 4.0 - Bargain price for Southampton defender until Bertrand returns
Well, I have Clyne and Bellerin already (the latter isn't seriously injured, from what I've read).
Anybody over 5.5 I can't afford. (Kompany, Coleman)
Will steer clear of players likely to be rotated/not be nailed on starters, or not settled in a new team where manager is trying stuff out, or fitness in doubt.
From your list, I'll look more closely at Schlupp , Targett for a short-term fix. And keep an eye on Darmian for a bit later on (Van Gaal really rotated his squad in the early part of last season, so will want to be sure he's not going to o that this season.)
Schlupp - I'd have to bench him anyway, as they are playing against us, so maybe I should hold off and have 2 free transfers to play with next week - that enables a bit of a shuffle rather than 1 in 1 out ;hmm
---
Edit - outcast, I have Sagna in my other team but want to transfer him out because of his new hairstyle .. . shame we can't swap between teams in the same ownership for free ;biggrin
re Kompany - I'm wary of CB. RB and LB I think can potentially get more assists over a season (if you pick carefully). And they all get the same points for a clean sheet......
ok.... on average between 80 and 100 over the season - lets say 90 to go in the middle ;hmm ;puzzled
90 minus the freebie every week minus the two wildcard weeks ( which can account for 5 -10 TFS x wildcards so ill average it at 7 x 2 )
90 - 36(free game weeks) - 14(2 wildcards) = 40
40 x 4 = 160 points
However.....
A good percentage of those TFs actually gain me points compared to if I had not carried them out ( e.g. double game week players especially if ones a captain who does well plus it shoots me up the rankings - forward planning for those game weeks by gradually changing team which can mean points equaling 2 good game weeks in one week )
Sometimes it stays the same or is negligible ( but I have the new faces in the team and that usually means they're in form and will score better than ones I've replaced on the whole as a lot of players go on streaks of scoring form - some stay if doing well and some get booted out ;biggrin ).
Sometimes you get hit with a group of injuries and I justify a couple of extra transfers to get a higher priced player in e.g. need Silva in, transfer out a player 2M less and need to tinker to accommodate but again its usually form players or defenders who I've studied that have good fixtures for the next 6-8 game weeks.
So there's plenty of method plus my liking for transfers/freshening which I have to feel like I have justification for. Having the same squad week after week with minimal changes = boring for me ;whistle
AND I have always finished in the top 0.5% at the end of the season
