Over the past weeks I have read many comments on here how great it was to not have VAR and being able to celebratin g goals as they go in. I mostly agree with that although I do believe that VAR does offer something. But that is a different topic.

What I was wondering is how our results this season would look like if we did have VAR. Which goals would be chalked off? Where do we profit from something the ref didn't catch?

Maybe those of you with live or tv access to the match could comment on here after the matches so we could keep a tally?

I’m not interested in where we may have profited but seeing some of the offside decisions in other games where goals were disallowed and cost Charlton and Birmingham 2 points in their games would raise eyebrows if we have one chalked off.

I’m ok with mistakes being made in real time by humans. I’m far less ok with mistakes being made with the aid of video and minutes long pauses. If VAR were a perfect system then I’d be good with it, but it’s not, and it ruins the fun of football.

I am ok with mistakes being made. I am also interested in seeing what VAR brings to the table with regard to points. If it doesn't change much then why bother? But in a multi-billion football world mistakes can be the difference between a team going down or not or qualifying for the Champions League or only the Europa League and the difference there is a lot of money!

It is so much more enjoyable when a goal goes in. You can celebrate properly. Isn’t this moment of joy the whole point of football.

VAR shouldn't be about finding a reason to disallow a goal by micro management which is what it does atm.

Unless the decsion goes against the other side and we can chant "VAR, VAR, VAR" at them which is lots of fun

Before VAR we complained about goals that were allowed or disallowed for one reason or another, penalties that should or shouldn't have been given and players who should have been sent off but weren't or were sent off when they shouldn't have been.

No matter what they do we will complain about something and nothing involving humans will be perfect. Even AI is designed by humans

My view is that the idea behind it is correct, as some mistakes there are just no excuses for and they should be corrected (James Milner offside anyone?), but that the system has to get better, and hopefully, in time, it will do.

I look at is as similar to recycling; initially it wasn't worthwhile given the low uptake when it was first introduced but you had to go through that period to reach a better future. I'm just hoping that VAR eventually develops into something worthwhile.

I don't see how it can get better, it's three officials looking at screens in an office just off the M4

I don't agree with that personally; there will always be a line where someone is ever so marginally offside or onside.

And I thought a few times during the WC that ai had been used to move a person in the picture to make them fractionally offside/onside depending on which team Infantino and Trump wanted to win.

But yes, it certainly does need improvement.

Aslef AI is currently designed by humans but we’re close to when AI designs itself.
