West Ham v QPR, FA Cup 3rd Rd, Sunday 11 January 2.30pm
Ah! The magic of the cup, the 3rd round is one of the great sporting days on the calendar they will all say.
So 32 ties now played over 4 days with 10 different kick off times. Oh well.
QPR at home for the first time at the London Stadium in front of a decent crowd of around 45,000, imo, QPR having sold out their 9000 allocation in quick time.
QPR being 3 points off the play off positions will likely field a mixd staring XI, I'll leave it to ASLEF to fill in the details. Nuno needs a win, any win, so my starting XI is -
Hermansen
Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Igor, Mayers
Soucek, Magassa
Bowen, Paqueta, Sommerville
Pablo
2-1 home win to lift some of the gloom.

1. If we win it will remind them of what it’s like to win and maybe restore a bit of confidence and
2. If we lose it will give them an indication of what life may be like next season if they don’t get a grip and get themselves out of trouble.
What would Nuno do? Play a strong side, in the hope of winning and boosting player confidence? Play a weaker side and rest players? Have a look at younger and fringe players to see they can help to redeem the season? Prepare for the likely derby next year?
Ah ... the life of a football manager.
Hermansen
KWP Golambeckis Igor Mayers
Soucek Magassa Kante
Tatty Pablo Summerville
I’d rest those that seem fatigued, played a lot of minutes recently, or showed signs of having minor injuries. That’s Scarles, Potts, Fernandes, Paqueta, Bowen. I would’ve also rested Magassa but then we risk a too weak first 11.
They got a new manager in the summer - ex-Rennes and Strasbourg Julien Stephan - after the previous manager left on a mutual then joined Leicester three weeks later
They've not had a lot of luck in advance of their trip to Stratford with four players injured at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday.
Top scorer Jamaican CF Rumarn Burrell (10 in 27) isn't expected to be back until March with 2nd top scorer Ivorian 22yo Richard Kone (5 in 25) likely to start in his place
Martinique CM Jonathan Varane (23 appearances) will likely be replaced by Jamaican CM Isaac Hayden (just 4 starts in 13, 171 appearances for Newcastle 2016-21).
Ghanaian RW Kwame Poku had been injured for most of the season and had only made 3 starts out of 8 appearances while CB Liam Morrison got 12 starts at the beginning of the season but has been a substitute since November
Moroccan playmaker AM/LW Ilias Chair is a big miss, injured since the beginning of December. In his absence Danish CM Nicolas Madsen seems to provide their creative outlet while also offering a solid defensive contribution
Apart from Hayden the only other player with significant Premier League experience is 34yo CB Steve Cook, 387 appearances for Bournemouth, 21 appearances for QPR so far
QPR fans are very happy to have him back but he has hardly played since the start of November
Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Todibo - Wan-Bissaka
Bowen - Souček - Fernandes - Summerville
Paquetá

The side needs to experience wins. Strongest side. There is nobody good enough or playing well enough who needs ‘protecting’ with rest.
