  • Soucek up next.
  • Leeds score
  • Pablo up next
  • He misses (well, it's saved)
  • Leeds have a chance to win it here
  • In off the post, Leeds win.
  • As soon as the camera went to Pablo I thought the worst...
  • Not meant to be....Oh well.
  • You just knew that Pablo was going to miss. Well that’s as far as Leeds will go I would say.
  • Really hope they get drawn against City now.....
  • Cant complain about that. Focus on the league now.
  • Worst possible outcome, we played 120 minutes (well, actually a lot more), don't go through, and have Wolves to play on Friday in a huge match.
  • I said to my wife that Pablo wouldn't score.
  • He isn't a striker of the ball, although nor is Mavro and he is a great penalty taker so far. Bowens should have put the pressure on them and it was a poor effort for such a good striker of the ball.
  • Oh well… pleased we made a game of it - ironic that our two front players hit the worst penalties but thems the breaks.

Hedrick did his bit and saved one giving us a chance but it was not to be

Yep don’t take much from that other than can focus on the league, losing at home to a relegation rival is never a good thing

Just hoping that some of the missing players return, we will certainly need to freshen it up......
  • Tbf we didn’t really have any penalty takers

Not for me. Worst outcome was losing 2-0 having not looked great. Losing after showing loads of fight to haul ourselves back into it is alright. A lot more confidence to go into the Wolves game with.
  • Fair play to Finlay, big effort from the players second half
  • Heartbroken, after a superb comeback. Played well in the second half, and with a bit of luck could have had couple of goals in the first half of extra time But it wasn't to be.
Now need to beat Wolves on Friday.
  • Out of interest, why wasn't Wilson on the bench, is he injured or was just being rested...
  • Good though that we rested at least 5 or 6 First choices for Friday.
  • I really enjoyed that, shame about the result but you can’t grumble too much when you’re 2-0 down in stoppage time. They showed a lot of guts, and that gives me confidence.
  • Hope Leeds make the final ,Then they play us a week later .Might just work in our favour same as Arsenal reaching champions league final having already won the Premier

I think it just gets challenging looking for positives. We’ve lost 18 out of 36 games this season. A GD of -21. That’s horrendous. We’ve been in the bottom three for over 90% of the season. We have won 1 of our last 7 after a good little bit of form (losing Pablo & then Summerville didn’t help to a successful 4-4-2 system). In that good bit of form, it only got us out of the bottom three for a maximum of 18 hours.

This is not being pessimistic or negative. These are facts & the evidence in front of us. Yes, we did well to fight back yesterday & not give up, a solid mentality (Leeds were comfy before our first goal), & we should have won the game in extra time, but it’s just yet another defeat in a season littered with regular losses. This time, to a newly promoted side & one we are hoping we can try & ‘drag back into the mix’ (they already have 5 points on us with our GD).

It just gets to the point where, even if the personality & mentality of the side is better (Disasi & Taty have clearly improved us), you just feel numb to the results. It’s not good enough & hasn’t been since August. I look at our remaining fixtures (even Arsenal, who will likely have won the league by then) & think ‘surely a club of West Ham’s stature can go unbeaten in these final 7 games’, but we know we probably won’t.
  • We've lost 4 out of our last 14 games, 2 to our last 7 over 90 minutes. We don't have to go unbeaten in our last 7 games. I think that is a pessimistic and negative look at the situation.
We were always in the game yesterday and generally on top in the second, half despite missing 3 of our regular back 5, plus Mav, and our match winner.

    Two other points.

You don't win 5 times more for finishing 17th over winning the cup. You win over £4.4m in prize money if you win the cup as opposed to £10.7m for 17th place.

Lot of media speculation over the 11 minutes added time. Well after 1 minute of the second half there was a 5 minute stop for an injury followed by a substitution then a triple substitution with I think 3 times trainers called onto the pitch. This is not to mention Leeds, or Farkes, roll about on the ground shenanigans. So I think 11 minutes was conservative.

Other than that it was a good cup tie that we were unlucky not to win but showed good spirit.

  • Still puzzled by why Nuno started the game with Bowen on the left and Traore on the right wing, and moved Fernandez to the number 10 position for the first-half. All played out of position and we had a poor first-half. In the second-half they reverted to the their more usual position and we had a better display.

Why does Nuno do this? I remember, earlier in the season he played Scarles at right-back and that backfired too.
