  • @Pengeman, He could always think about picking a different line up?

IF the protest groups are planning to do that at next weekends game then what has just occurred has certainly strengthened their resolve to do so.

The protest is against the board, not Potter.

Thought we were pretty good for the first half, and the first 30 minutes in particular were the best I can remember us playing at home in a really long time. I’ve been critical of JWP since Moyes was in charge but actually thought yesterday he showed some signs of being more mobile and showing more energy to move into spaces to receive a pass in the first half, which helped us.
The first goal is a shame and then Soucek’s really ruined it for us. We completely collapsed and couldn’t stay in it. I don’t think the result looks like that if Soucek isn’t stupid there.

I agree with some of your views, the first 20/30 mins we played some nice football. But after that it was corner after corner for Spurs and they started to take control.
Sadly and worryingly, any corner we face IMO we look vulnerable, not sure why, but we look clueless and also our new keeper unfortunately isn't a keeper who commands his area ( it's early days for him and he's joined a squad who have been underperforming for ages now, but just from what I've seen so from him so far )...

Re JWP, yes, he looks ok, but saying that, IMO not much more and we need more than that, of course it's not just his fault, or I'm blaming him, but for Potter is seems like he's undroppable, for me, that's just odd.

The red card certainly made our life difficult, especially conceding within 2 minutes of it, game over....

But as @Lukerz pointed out, this season it's becoming a very, very bad habit...One goal conceded and we just fall apart...11 goal shipped in 4 matches, that's a shocking stat...
  • The morning after another poor show is hard.

We show no fight and crumble after the first goal. We have the worst defence after spending millions. There are no leaders. Bowen is an excellent player but is not a captain. He is wasted in the centre. Tottenham put in 31 crosses yesterday, one every three minutes, and our statuesque midfield failed to check the supply. Paqueta has one good game in four/five and is inconsistent. He needs to be dropped. May be Soucek's absence will force Potter to reshape midfield.

It isn't just the team and tactics. There seems to be no strategy or succession plan. The owners hire an unemployed manager who comes in, dismantles the last manager's work
and clears out the purchases by the last manager, is then sacked, collects a pay-off and the cycle is repeated. Millions wasted and we have no identifiable style or strategy. I fear the worst this season.

  • Sadly, if the season deteriorates, Bowen might be tempted to go. After Kudus, Paqueta, then possibly Bowen, what's left. Without new billionaire owners, I can see us (not the fans) just happy to avoid relegation each season until 'they' decide to sell up. Supporting the mighty Hammers for close to 60 years, this is one of the most depressing times. But being a Hammer, despite the temporary depression, I am too long in the tooth to think of any other team
  • I agree we did play some good stuff and competed well in a twenty minute period in the first half and that gives hope but we look so vulnerable at the back. I think any team with Kilman and Mavro as their two centre backs is not going to be long for this league.

The lunacy of the second corner goal was that we had three decent sized players all marking no one much at the near side as though they knew it was going to be a near post corner, we had Walker-Phillips, again marking a guy half a foot bigger than him in the centre and then we had no one at the back, it loops over everyone and gets easily put in. You would get upset if your pub team did that, yet we supposedly have set piece training.

The annoying thing was that Spurs didn't look anything special and we were not out of this match as we were Chelsea, in which you could just see they were much better. The problem was however we have a Championship level centre back pairing playing in the Premier league, JWP who seems to offer little and slow things down mostly and, as for such a long time, no centre forward. Add to this a blind spot regard our own set piece frailty and it looks like we may find it hard to not concede in most games.
  • I do feel this squad has become very stale and too used to losing. I'm not sure how that gets turned around. When Potter came in last season, he at least improved us defensively a bit, and I was hoping that would prove a good platform coming into this season. But that's gone completely out the window.

There isn't a lot of fight or confidence in the team, and when things aren't going well they quickly get a lot worse. It started under Moyes, continued under Lop, and now continues under Potter. Feels to me a lot of this squad has been through too many terrible games and seasons to turn it around together.

To be honest I think relegation might do us a favour. Bowen is the only player I'd be sorry to lose. It might give us the opportunity to really reset the squad. Plus we'd have a season where we'd be winning a few more games.
  • We may win a few more games in the championship but I’m not sure we’d win enough to get promotion.
In the second half of last season when we lost it was by the odd goal. Now if we lose it’s by at least 3.

Yes that is the case but they appoint the managers and don't invest sufficiently to help the club progress. It's the same issue with the Women's team. They are just happy to hang onto playing in the top league for both teams. As always that is just my opinion and many will disagree with me on here but c'est la vie.

Relegation is always so depressing, as you inevitably lose your best players, so if, and it's a big if, you come back up, it's with a weaker squad than you were relegated with.

  • I'm not sure clinging onto a Premier League place and getting thrashed every few games is any less depressing than a relegation and reset. How much weaker would we be than this if/when we do come back up?

As for losing best players, beyond Bowen there aren't any I'd care about leaving.
  • @Jorderz, The owners struggle to seriously finance being in the EPL as it is, it would be even harder to be competitive with the considerable loss of revenue relegation would bring. Leicester fans feel the only benefit of being in the Championship is there is no VAR.
  • I really doubt that's the opinion of all Leicester fans
  • @Jorderz, I think the vast majority of Leicester fans would rather be in the Premier League, well all the ones I know would definitely want that to be the case 👍.
  • Another thing is, (although you could argue this either way as to whether it's a good thing or not 😂🤣😂), atm I get to watch more or less every game but that would not be the case if we were in the Championship.

Of course they would, as I'd rather West Ham be in the Premier League - but competitively, not with a squad clinging on for dear life and getting beat by 3, 4 and 5 goals regularly, which is where I fear where we are for the foreseeable.

A reset doesn’t always work. Look how many former EPL teams dropped even lower after relegation.
  • Luton Town anybody, look where they are now!
  • Relegation is catastrophic, not only do you lose your core (not that we have one) and have to get promoted but when you do you then have to fashion a side that can survive the first couple of seasons before you can establish again as what has been made clear is that a Championship winning side is not good enough for the Premier League.
