There is absolutely no consolation in saying a few of us saw this coming 😞. Are there too many players who simply can’t play the way GP wants them to? Sorry I don’t want to be thinking avoiding relegation after the start we have had will be acceptable. Our best ball winning midfielder has now left so we now need to replace him. We need a reboot but don’t have the funds to do it?
I just saw the goals from the match. For three of the goals, West Ham’s defence simply stopped taking an active part in the game. And Hernandez showed just why he was relegated last season. I honestly think schoolboys would have done a better job than some of the team for those goals.
There is an argument that when you have 5 at the back, nobody actually knows what to do, especially when you play fluid attacking sides who all interchange. Back to basics; 4-3-3.
My two penneth for what it’s worth: First half at Sunderland was pretty good and looked promising, second half the wheels came off and heads went down which to me is totally unacceptable. Against Chelsea apart from the first ten minutes or so we were overrun by a very good side. I couldn’t fault the effort or the fight but we were simply outclassed. Ok so it’s a really bad start to the season but I saw small signs in both matches to hope that all is not doom and gloom-yet.
We are letting in a bomb of easy goals; 3 corners conceded v Chelsea. 2 crosses conceded at Sunderland. 5 goals from crosses into the box, either set play or open play.
The second Chelsea goal; we lose the ball twice - once with Füllkrug & then with Paquetá. That causes loads of players to not quite be where they should be, including AWB. The third Chelsea goal is a pretty good bit of play by a side with very good players.
Need to sort it out. We looked organised last season & in pre-season, not sure what is going on.

I think this is happening. The three CBs don’t know exactly where to be and we often have someone doing nothing. I think there are two or three goals where someone else looks like they haven’t tracked someone - Aguerd and AWB in two of those cases - but it’s actually Kilman who’s picked up no one and the other defenders are left with two players to pick up.
I think you need a really authoritative CB at the heart of the three and I’m not sure any of ours are up to that. Duffy was really good at that for Potter but I don’t think Kilman is.
Last season we were boring to watch but once Potter came in we didn’t let in so many goals, so it’s concerning to see that happen now. If we do go back to a 4, I think it might be worth seeing Aguerd and Todibo together. Could be a disaster but I don’t think Kilman has proven himself, unfortunately
I’d be interested in a back four with Aguerd at left back, personally. I think that he’s athletic enough to do it, and having a centre back at full back lets you do the shift to a three if you need it in game. Then you could have Diouf left midfield.
I think the wing backs are being encouraged to get into winger territory , which is good attacking football, but that our three centre backs are not able to cover sufficiently and get pulled out of shape too easily and concede. We can lock up shop more by asking them to defend more but then we remove most threat and will become a counter attacking side again, which may be all we have the players for at present.
Saw the result and decided to ignore the comments and watch the (recorded) game 'cold'. So...First half hour was OK. Oliver let Chelsea rough us up with elbows to the head and blatant body checks. When it was 1-2 instead of 2-1 the team seemed to lose hope. We gifted them three goals. Yes, players made mistakes ,but my impression is that the system leaves the middle totally exposed. Doomed? Not yet. But sorting mf and gk quickly is vital.
