  • Hopefully the owners will do as much as they can, with no further players in, IMO we're in for a long battle....

    Potter OUT ;)
How embarrassing is this? I hope nobody bumps into a Spud tonight, they'll be merciless.

    5.30am coach from Rush Green,

    Oh dear.
  • Right. It was going to be a 🍷 -free evening tonight. But I need to drown my sorrows...
  • At least we will stop hearing Potter has only ever lost a game for us by 1 goal. 3-0 will seem a luxury when we play Chelsea and Spurs and any of the bigger clubs.
I thought we were generally poor in our pre season games but some on here thought we were much better than last season. Today proves we aren’t

  • If we can keep it tight early on and quieten the crowd, I see us winning.

Jorderz, have you not read ASLEF's summary - LOSS =)

    Cough, cough. =)
  • Can’t wait to hear all the usual post-match player/manager waffle.
  • So after ONE game a quick scan on this thread it seems we need a new keeper, a new manager and most of our players are championship level.

    Marvellous.

That's ONE game and the previous half season.

Sound's about right !!! Did you watch the game....

To be fair, after that, it’s hard to draw any other conclusion
  • In the real world it was bad, just like most of last season, thing is we have decent players, but just don't seem to play as a team....
It was a bad 2nd half, and the 1st half, pass sideways, slow, boring...
    It's reality Slacker...
  • It may yet serve us as if you are going to get a wake up call you want it whilst the window is still open.

Sure did watch the FIRST game of the season in which we were poor.

  • I know it’s only the first game but we are bottom of the league. Get used to it guys because it’s a long long haul for us from here because we look so poor for long spells. I know teams can make you look poor but not the Sunderland’s of this world.
  • Expect Potter to put a positive spin on it by saying we were beaten by the league leaders
  • Slacker yes it was the FIRST game of the season in which we were poor but add to that about 30 of the 38 games last season and at least a dozen of the second 19 games the season before and it’s obvious we are not making any real progress.
Still seen no signs that Potter is the tactical genius people seem to believe he is.
  • Ok, so what’s your solution?
  • Well, until we realise that our entire squad (except Bowen) is rubbish, we will face a series of disappointments this season!

It’s not my job to come up with a solution, it’s Potter’s but so far he hasn’t shown any signs of knowing what to do. He’s had a full pre season with almost the entire squad at his disposal but you wouldn’t have thought it by today’s performance.
It seems from everything he and some of the players have said that he’s concentrated more on team bonding and getting to know each other as colleagues than he has on formulating a playing style that is better on the eye and could potentially yield results.
Today we were better in the first half but mostly played sideways or backwards at a gentle pace which we’ve now done for two and a half years. We had two thirds of the possession but only managed 2 shots.
  • To be fair, thorn is not wrong
  • That result feels worse than it probably should, we were reasonable in the first half and were guilty of not making the most of the possession we had.

The second half was poor, there is no hiding from that.

For me a couple of players i was looking out for failed to show up, Paqueta in particular, he really did nothing and Fullkrug was practically invisible.

Not a good enough start to the season and it undoubtedly makes life harder for us but I still hold out a realistic expectation for a mid table finish from this squad.

Paquetá has been awful for 90% of his games for us.

Füllkrug I don’t know what he offers?

Mmm is that because he’s a professional football manager?

  • I would look at future proofing what we do have, get Fearon / Orford / Potts / Earthy / Marshall / Scarles loans to the championship. Them alongside Casey can then get 1 year - 2 year championship experience that if we do drop we will have 7 players from the academy potentially slotting into the team.
  • Not sure what your point is. He is a professional football manager but he’s not making much of a fist of it with us at the moment, nor did he with Chelsea and he had better players there but still didn’t do anything.
His “success” at Brighton gave him a standing that perhaps he doesn’t deserve.
  • So, again, what would you do ?
  • Go back in time and only offer Potter a contract until the end of the season, extendable if he earns it.
  • Someone just said on the radio that GP needs to be given money, unlikely with S&B controlling the funds, & they did point out he hasn’t improved the team since he arrived.
