Inspired by the discussion in the transfer thread, I went and had a look at the last 5 seasons, for PL players scoring over 20 and between 15 and 19.
Excluding penalties, in the last 5 years the following players have managed 20+ goals
(18-19 first)
Mane
Salah, Kane
Kane, Lukaku, Sanchez, Costa
Aguero
Aguero
That's only 7 different players who have managed to score more than 20 goals without penalties included.
Excluding penalties, the following players have managed 15-19 goals (18-19 first)
Salah, Aubameyang, Aguero, Sterling
Aguero, Vardy, Sterling, Lukaku
Aguero, Alli, Ibrahimovic, Llorente
Kane, Vardy, Lukaku, Giroud
Kane, Costa, Charlie Austin, Sanchez
Excluding the 7 who managed 20+, only a further 8 players have managed 15 or more goals in a season excluding penalties.
Based on this, it really would pay for fans to rein in their expectations regarding what their main forward should be able to deliver over a season.
